if your making a perfect story, do you have to focus more on character or both plot and characterWhat are you talking about?cause your focusing on characters… yes? are you trying to make a perfeare you trying to make a perfect Superman story I've had some motivation for Superman lately, but I'm having trouble compiling my ideas into a cohesive story, plus there are still some issues that need to be resolved before I can start writing the full story.
- The movie is about fascism.
- Act 1 is Earth based, sets up status quo for Superman. Superman's about 6 months in, but people are still demoralized and hopeless. Lex has implemented the BRAINIAC protocol, a harsh security system, throughout Metropolis. End of Act 1, it's revealed that Brainiac is actually an alien and puts it to a vote whether Metropolis is bottled or not.
- Midpoint of Act 2, Metropolis votes yes. This demoralizes Superman as Metropolis is shrunken. Lex is given control of Metropolis by Brainiac, while Brainiac gets to rule the Coluan Empire. Brainiac is textbook fascist, obsessed with purity, promises security at the cost of removing those he deems weak. Brainiac and Lex are disgusted by Superman “wasting his strength” protecting people instead of ruling over them.
- Clark's arc through the film is accepting both sides of himself, Clark Kent and Kal-El and synthesizing them into a fully realized Superman. He starts out with the Morrison Action Comics costume, and ends wearing Kryptonian garb, but with the cape from his original costume added. Antithesis of Brainiac's fascism.
- Issues: Can't punch away fascism, has to be a more realistic solution that still fits the tone of a Superman story. How does Clark actually accept that he is both human and Kryptonian? What are Lois and the rest of the Daily Planet cast doing (what is Lois's arc?)
Any suggestions and solutions for the issues?

Bump. I'll just post it here and please give it a read with an open mind, I know it's grounded and I'm aware of some slight similarities with TBM, but i tried to do something different with it which I can explain if you'd like. But here is the outline I thought of a couple months ago: Can we give my grounded Batman story a chance. It's the only one I have any ideas for, I promise I won't make Batman always grounded
THE CAPED CRUSADER
This is originally the outline for a book I was gonna write but I’m pitching it as the movie as it’s the only Batman story I’m ultra passionate about right now. Please give it a chance and give feedback. Hex said it’s really similar to The Batman, and I see how it could seem that way, but really the only thing I got from it (unintentionally) was the bomb scene at the funeral of a corrupt official. Obviously I would change that and all similarities. I wanna maybe add Catwoman somewhere.
Gotham City, 2009. At night in an ugly alley, a young Elliot Caldwell and his father Drew run from two GCPD officers, Arnold Flass and Jason Bard. After the Caldwells keep running, Arnold shoots Drew dead. Elliot keeps running until he reaches the Church of St. Dismas, where he’s taken in by the nuns. As he has his soup near some other children, he sees a TV report about how Gotham is deeply struck by the tragic loss of Martha and Thomas Wayne.
Present day. Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham after 3 years of being away mastering every skill he could. He surprises Alfred back at Gotham Manor. After their greetings they sit down and have some tea and talk. Alfred tells Bruce about the Maroni-Falcone gang war that had recently erupted. They then start talking about “Bruce’s project”.
Cut to Bruce, in a very early Batman suit, surveilling the streets of Gotham, specifically in the worst part of the city, The Narrows. He finds a thug called Eddie Deacon, a member of Falcone’s gang. Batman beats him up but has to escape when the GCPD arrive, led by Renee Montoya. Batman makes the news that night.
At the Iceberg Lounge, one of the Falcone crime family’s hubs, Carmine “The Roman” Falcone talks to his underboss, Oswald “Oz” Coppolotti, also known as “the Penguin”. They talk about “the Bat demon” who was recently spotted in The Narrows and other parts of the Eastside of Gotham. The Penguin advises Carmine to move their next big shipment to somewhere else, due to the presence of the Bat, but Falcone ignores him.
On the night of the shipment, Batman tunes into the police radio. They send almost all their people to intervene in a robbery attempt at the Gotham National Bank. Batman deduces that it’s a diversion and he drives to the part of the city that was now left unsupervised by the GCPD. He goes to the docks, where he finds Mickey “The Mink” Sullivan, leader of the Irish Mob that operated under the Falcones, leading a big shipment. Batman takes them down in a big action sequence until the GCPD finally arrive. Batman meets Lieutenant Jim Gordon.
We meet a mysterious vigilante figure, Wrath, in a sleek paramilitary suit. He stealthily stalks the GCPD officer Arnold Flass, following him through the Red Light district, until finally killing him.
Bruce is in the Batcave, when Alfred reminds him he has a brunch scheduled with Harvey Dent. On the TV they see a news report of Flass’s death. Later Bruce leaves for brunch. There, he talks to Dent, who heavily criticizes Batman and implies it was him who murdered Arnold Flass. Gordon is there as well.
At the Batcave, Batman hacks the police database. He spends hours investigating Arnold Flass’s records, until he finds a document that interests him, an incident back from 2009 where Flass shot a thief called Drew Caldwell, but the incident was covered up and dismissed as self-defense from Flass. Batman notes the name of Flass’s partner that night, Jason Bard, Wrath should target him too. Batman and Alfred find newspapers from this time and get more details. The shooting happened in the working class neighborhood called The Bowery, in the Eastside. Bruce goes there undercover as “Matches Malone”. He asks around about Drew Caldwell, until he meets a small time dealer at a bar called “Lenny”, who is a bit tipsy and tells Malone more or less of the gist of it, going as far as telling Malone that Caldwell’s son came back and is protecting the neighborhood from GCPD and Maroni and Falcone’s gangs.
At Flask’s funeral several people give speeches, these speeches demonstrate how broken the system is. Bruce Wayne attends. During Jason Bard’s speech, Wrath appears and gives a big monologue, revealing his plans to target the whole GCPD, as well as the Falcone and the Maroni crime families. Wrath reveals a bomb, but Batman appears and takes care of the bomb. Wrath and Batman fight, so Harvey Dent and Gordon realize they’re not the same person. Wrath stabs Batman and escapes. Batman goes back to the Batcave exhausted and hurt. Alfred, who is getting increasingly worried, patches Bruce up.
At Salvatore “The Boss” Maroni’s base in the Westside of Gotham, he talks to his underboss, Tony Zucco. They talk about the Bat and how Arnold Flass, who was under Falcone’s payroll, was killed. Maroni orders Zucco to talk to police officer Bill Kenzie about increased protection from the GCPD. Pan out to reveal Wrath was listening the whole time.
At the Gordon home (here we meet Barbara Gordon, Jim’s wheelchair-bound daughter), the Gordon family has dinner when they hear a news report from the TV, announcing that the officer Bill Kenzie was found dead. Gordon tells them how Kenzie worked for Maroni. Gordon realizes that he needs Batman’s help. He spends the night carving a bat symbol, which he lights up on the roof of the precinct. Cut to Bruce Wayne in an ice bath recovering from his wounds. Alfred arrives and tells him there’s something he might wanna see. From the balcony they see the bat symbol lit up in the sky. Bruce suits up and answers it, against Alfred’s advice. At the precinct Gordon and Batman form an alliance. Batman tells him that they have to keep a close eye on Falcone and Maroni, because that’s where Wrath will strike next. It’s a shame that Kenzie, the most notoriously corrupt and Maroni-working cop, was now dead. Despite that, Gordon has been investigating corrupt cops so they may have a lead. Him and Batman play good-cop-bad-cop and confront Stan Merkel, Gordon’s ex-partner, who ends up giving away that Maroni was receiving a big shipment in the Old Docks on the Westside that night.
Batman and Gordon arrive at the docks. They wait patiently as the Maronis load their stuff into trucks. As expected Wrath arrives, killing several of Maroni’s men. Before he can kill Maroni, Batman jumps in and fights Wrath, who manages to slip away for a bit and kill Maroni. Wrath and Batman fight and have a conversation, where Wrath expresses frustration at Batman meddling with his plans. Later at the precinct, Gordon gives a speech to the GCPD about going all-in and ending the crime families for good, and talks about how they have to finish Falcone’s operation next. Batman watches outside. Meanwhile, officer Jack Forbes texts an unknown number and asks them to meet.
The Falcones celebrate the end of the Maroni’s operations, and prepare for a big shipment across the Tricorner bridge. Out of nowhere the GCPD ambushes them, expecting them, and manages to arrest Falcone.
Days earlier, the Penguin gets a text to meet someone. He meets with officer Jack Forbes, who offers $10,000 and protection to the Penguin if he double-crosses Falcone. Penguin agrees and tells him about their upcoming shipment in a few days.
Gordon (who has been promoted to Commissioner) and the GCPD squad celebrate the downfall of the two major crime families, when Gordon is silently kidnapped by Wrath outside. The officers notice later, and Renee Montoya, who had been critical about Batman the whole movie, puts the Bat symbol up herself. Batman answers the call and sets out to save Gordon.
Batman follows his gut feeling and goes to The Bowery neighborhood. He gets a strange feeling as he approaches an alley eerily reminiscent of the one his parents died in so many years ago. He goes into an abandoned place called the CHURCH OF SAINT DISMAS. Inside he investigates and deduces it’s an abandoned church, which also functioned as a sort of orphanage, giving kids homes and food. He finds weird things like modern computers and weapons, until he finds a suit like the one Wrath wears. He rushes outside and climbs onto the roof, where he finds Wrath with Gordon beaten unconscious. Wrath tells Batman about the thug Batman beat on his first night of crime fighting, Eddie Deacon, and tells him how Eddie Deacon went into crime to pay off some debt to the mob after a dirty cop showed up at his home and threatened his kid brother. Wrath asks Batman if he’s read the Bible, and tells him the story of Saint Dismas, the Good Thief. He then reveals a tattoo of this saint. Wrath has a point but his violence is misguided. Wrath hangs Gordon over the building and then reveals that he has placed bombs around GCPD headquarters, telling Batman he has to pick between Gordon or the GCPD. Wrath knows that Gordon is one of the good cops, but would Batman let hundreds of bad ones die to save one good one? Batman notices that Wrath has been checking his wrist the whole time. Realizing the detonator is on his wrist, Batman uses the grappling hook to knock it to the ground below. He anticipates that Wrath would drop Gordon, so he dives from the rooftop and manages to catch Gordon and cushion their landing. Renee Montoya and several GCPD officers are revealed to have been surrounding the location and ambush Wrath. They point their guns on him, and Wrath drops to his knees and repeats “Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.” Batman tells them not to shoot.
Batman comes home and reconnects with Alfred. They hug and Alfred cooks Bruce his first proper “Bruce Wayne breakfast” in ages. Bruce tells Alfred he has an idea. He visits Gordon at the hospital and they agree to make Gotham a better place. Bruce Wayne opens the “Gotham City Orphanage” in the Eastside (Alfred had asked if he was gonna name it the Bruce Wayne Orphanage or something, but Bruce, now his character arc complete, chooses the Gotham name).
AFTERMATH
- The Penguin and Tony Zucco are now the big crime bosses in Gotham
- Wrath is locked up at Blackgate Penitentiary

You got somewhat of a point but not really, the crime war didn't have a winner, Zucco just took up Maroni's operations and Penguin took up Falcone's. The sequel would have the both of them disputing for power. Also in TBM Penguin didn't really take control, that only actually happens in the last few episodes of his miniseriesHaven't gotten a chance to read it again, but another similarity to TBM: They both end with Penguin becoming the big crime boss in Gotham.Yeah forums don't let meDic Grayson? Just reread the outline and I really like it. Feels like it could totally be a real Batman movie, and the character beats work. Btw, what were u thinking for the look of Batman and Wrath's suits?

Thanks! I'm not sure on the suits tbh. For Batman I like a light gray with black but I'm open to anything. As for Wrath I was thinking something realistic but that looks cool and has some style/color. With a big W on the chest. Just reread the outline and I really like it. Feels like it could totally be a real Batman movie, and the character beats work. Btw, what were u thinking for the look of Batman and Wrath's suits?
One thing I really like about Batman is shots like this, like very creepy long “bat-like” cape, but obviously he realizes it's impractical so at some point (either after his first few nights of crime or at the end of the movie) he changes it to a retractable cape so he can modify the length.
But yeah, I don't really mind too much how the suits look, I guess part of that decision would be up to whoever does the designs

I reread the story and it is less similar in terms of the actual plot, but the themes and tone are very similar. An ultra grounded Batman story about the corruption in the police force is incredibly similar. Obviously, don't change the themes of the story, those are what matter most, but maybe the tone could be a bit less grounded?Bump.
