Accessibility Option for PFPs and Thumbnails
too lazy to quote lol scratch added the purple and high contrast and stated in the community guidelines, scratch is a place for everyone, including all abilites. I gotta eat, but ill add laterrFull support! Some people @ my school have a hard time reading other students pfp or scratch projects (especially intros) because they may have some eye problems, which is totally fine. They sometimes have to go to the school nurse because they can get bad headaches. Btw we use scratch app. Anyway, now imagine there were a bunch of people using scratch, being able to view others projects, but having a hard time. Like previously mentioned
This suggestion would be beneficial to persons suffering from epilepsy, but most of your argument is based around intros and projects, which would not be affected by this suggestion.

I agree! It could be in account settings. Automatically, the feature would make gifs turned off, but if you go to account settings, you can turn the feature off/on.

Was this your 100th post? And also maybe it could be like an extra option in acc creation? also in account settings. bump
EDIT: what do you think about existing scratchers? would they just see it in their account settings? be prompted to select a choice when they first log in? just please dont make us create a new account lol

I have bad eyes in terms of vision, and ADHD. My brain sometimes suffers from seeing a high contrast flashing gif.

If you’re neurotypical (I am too honestly) then please try to elaborate with what problems neurodivergent people face. Sensory issues are not easy to “ignore”. I don’t have anything diagnosed and I’m neurotypical (I think) but one extremely random thing I face is whenever I’m on a computer I have this urge to ethier scroll on the mouse down or up and feel the texture of the scroll wheel. Very random but I can never seem to resist and I’m guessing it’s similar for people with sensory issues Just ignore the gif. Scratch shouldn't make an entirely new feature for a small group of people who refuse to not look at gifs. I understand the sensory issues, but even then with sensory issues I'm sure a gif isn't like a hypnotizing animation that forces you to look at it until you close the page.

Tbh I wasn't counting but now you mention it, yes, I must forever suffer the shame that my 100th post was a bump

I like the idea that it could be an option in account creation as well as in settings! That way it would be harder for people to miss it, so those who want to use it would know it's there.

Thanks for pointing this out! You're completely right. I'd be really interested to hear neurotypicals weighing in on this issue too because I think some people genuinely don't realise (and in the best way possible, it's not deliberate or anything) that there is a big difference between something being “annoying” and something being “it is physically impossible for me to handle looking at this and I have to go and do something else”.
In general, I'm of the opinion that accessibility - particularly on digital technology - should be about providing options so that as many people as possible are comfortable and can find something that works for them. It's the reason I initially suggested a toggle for this feature because honestly, people who love gifs should get to have fun with them too! There should just be an added option so that those who don't want to see them don't need to. And that seems to fit well with the "low floor, wide walls, high ceiling" philosophy that Scratch follows with their design goals, so it seems applicable to the rest of the website interface as well. oops that turned into an essay
I really like that you mentioned, as someone who is neurotypical, the thing with the scroll wheel because how you describe it is pretty much exactly the same as I've heard others describe sensory issues. For me the closest thing is having to constantly adjust the zoom so that everything fits ‘nicely’ on the page, otherwise the formatting is so distracting I can't focus on the actual content, lol

For existing Scratchers it would just appear as an option in account settings, I think if the ST made an announcement about implementing the feature then that would be enough to make aware the people who already have an account. And when a person does make a new account, they are prompted/directed to the account settings page when they first sign up. No new accounts necessary

Also i dont think you would need to direct them to the acc settings page since they are probably already going there to confirm there email. snip
