Proposed "subscription" implementation
Yeah, and YouTube isn't a kids website. Literally all of your arguments are ones which have already been used to try to get a dislike button removed from the list of rejected suggestions and debunkedYouTubers' subscribers may not like and comment all of their videos, and they aren't complaining.Drama as in: Exactly! Then you learn to be more grateful for who is subscribing!
User A: Follows User B
User B: Asks why User A didn't subscribe
Conversations like this never end well.

Proposed "subscription" implementation
To anyone saying there should be subscriber notifications, let me just say that this would make it kind of like Youtube. The follow button in Scratch is like Youtube's subscribe button, and the “subscribe” button in Scratch is like Youtube's notification bell. Think about how weird it would be if the notification bell count was displayed when it has to be less than the subscriber count and that's not the point of it anyway; that's why subscribing (in this case, following) exists.
I think this suggestion is a good idea, and well presented. I'm not entirely sure I support it though. I definitely think the subscribe button is too big. I personally think it would be a lot better as a notification bell, like in Youtube… it wouldn't fit Scratch's style to be conjoined with the follow button though, so it could just be a rounded square with the bell on it next to the follow button. To make it more clear what it does for anyone who doesn't immediately know, it could have a tooltip saying “Recieve project messages from this user”.
Either way it will look a bit like Youtube, inspired by Youtube, so we should pick the better design for it. I think a simple notification bell is the better idea, so it both looks better and saves space, and people won't be confused as to why it doesn't send notifications for “subscribes” because they're so used to the idea of Youtube's subscribe button. If it's just a simple notification bell, I would say… something around 85% support.
I do like the mockups for the red notification icon and the notifications themselves, both the users and projects in bold being clickable links. In case this gets changed to the notification bell, the title could say “Follower Notifications” instead. One thing I thought of is that maybe there could be an X in the corner to manually close it (not necessary of course) and then the actual messages could move up to the top, like closing an alert. All this would do is save a bit of scrolling, but it would likely make the user feel like they're getting things done
sorry for another long post :P

If someone openly says "only one percent of my viewers have subscribed“ like that just makes them look bad in my opinion. But if it's like ”only about half of my viewers have subscribed" (which I have seen) or more, then it doesn't look as bad :PI think we all have Have you ever heard “Before we start, only one percent of my viewers are subscribed…”
sorry for another long post :P

What if you can't get in? Also, please be constructive and explain your reasoning to disagree with a suggestion beyond “I don't like it.”Then curate the studio! Edit: I don't think I want to add “subscribing to studios” to this suggestion. I just wanted to defend the idea for a second.

(I'm assuming you meant "would not") What if you wanted to know when projects are added though? Like if there's a studio with projects in it that you like, but you're not allowed to curate. Should you just give up or would this feature be useful?Well they do not want you in then so notifs for that studio would be useful. You ask the person and they won't let you in.
