Remove public follower count.
You know what, while we're here, let's just remove the amount of views, loves and faves on projects too, and just completely get rid of the entire favorite projects system and make sure that no one can share their projects or studios because there's always going to be a popularity problem no matter what you do, and removing the follower bar is not going to get rid of that problem, I still stand by my no support, it won't make much of a difference when you can still see the favorites, loves, and views on projects

“Let's not try to solve the problem because it's inevitable” You know what, while we're here, let's just remove the amount of views, loves and faves on projects too, and just completely get rid of the entire favorite projects system and make sure that no one can share their projects or studios because there's always going to be a popularity problem no matter what you do, and removing the follower bar is not going to get rid of that problem, I still stand by my no support, it won't make much of a difference when you can still see the favorites, loves, and views on projects
The biggest thing that fame-hungry Scratchers want are followers.
Loves and favorites make some projects stand out, but followers are long term. They're more long-lasting than loves and favorites, and follows generally bring more of them anyway.

No support as per this. Followers are great motivation to know that people liked you enough to follow you, as long as you're not obsessed with it. The Scratch Team knew this sort of thing would happen eventually (young children and internet popularity don't mix well) when they made following a thing, yet they still did it. Obviously, there is a reason. I've noticed that a lot of “Famous” Scratcher's projects are seriously lacking in creativity. The platformers are the worst. Even the artwork starts looking the same after a while. These Scratchers seem to be obsessed with making lots of projects that will get people's attention, projects that their followers will like, rather than taking their time to make a really good quality project. Let's face it, this obsession with follower counts is ruining the quality of projects on the trending page.
However, I do think that being able to see a person's followers can be useful sometimes. So maybe instead of hiding the entire followers bar, just hide the number of followers that appears when you click on the “view all” button.
EDIT: I wrote this before the topics were merged, so it does not make sense any more.

No support as per this. Yes, younger users will do this; no, it will not solve anything. What you are doing here is merely providing a minor inconvenience.Yeah, I do agree with this. Despite the fact that they're not even features, plenty of Scratchers are trying to figure out how to follow themselves, how to remix their own projects, how to feature unshared projects on their profile, and how to make projects with animated thumbnails. The fact that these aren't “easy” to do doesn't really stop them from doing it.That's avoiding the problem. That takes more time and effort. I don't think younger users would bother with/think of this, and most older users who do do it, are probably able to see that scratch isn't about followers. Well, you could easily see how many pages of followers a user has, multiply by 60, and get a rough estimate of how many followers they have.
If Scratch were to remove follower counts one day, don't you think word would spread about “How to figure how many followers someone has”?

So, just gonna reply here in what I've said in a duplicate
I Support!Um… this is interesting. I thought of a feature like that too, and
REASONS WHY I SUPPORT:
1- Bragging. People on Scratch brag a lot about followers. Before i leave here, i predict scratch will be a social media. No projects, no. People just care about followers. I don't. I care about loves, that is fine, because people work hard on projects and it's good to see a good love on it. But really, now people just care about having lots of followers. They even do F4F and FoR for them. And now there's this dude who likes to brag about having 5000 followers obtained either trough F4F or FoR, or just an army of alts, siblings, classmates and IRL friends.
2- Recently i've been seeing a lot of spam on some profiles. Why? Oh i'll explain why. Some people search on a popular guy's follower list to find their first follower, spamming their profile saying “*famous guy*'s first follower!!!!!!111!!1!1” and without the ability of seeing someone's follower list, those innocent scratchers won't have their profile spammed anymore.

no support. follows can be a good first impression. if you have 300 and don't do f4f. then people will trust you more because you have 300 people who trust you/like your stuff . So yeah. and scratch isn't about fame, so if people get upset about lack of popularity well thats just not cool.

Yes, but remember how many APIs there are to see how many messages, forum posts a user has etc. This will make a new one of those and most people will still see it. Maybe they'll move on to another form of being famous, for example loves and favorites. Also, followers are better than loves, a love means “I like this project” and a follower means “I really like your projects and I want to see more so I'll follow you that way I'll see your activity on the Scratch home page” So, just gonna reply here in what I've said in a duplicateI Support!Um… this is interesting. Watch this happen and fav for fav become a thing…

this suggestion could help people realize they are here to code and have fun and that scratch is not about fame, debunk the scratch is social media misconception, and prevent jealousy.

While I do agree that Scratch isn't about fame, I don't support this because it's nice to see how many people appreciate you'r work.

A possible solution could be to allow the user to choose if they want people to see their follower amount or not via Account Settings….

babump:
literally almost everybody will click yes, that won't do a thing.
–
also, everyone is just saying how even if the count is removed, people could do multiplication to find the number.
why dont we just remove the BAR entirely?
all that will do is put an extra step between fame hungry kids and their ability to flex. A possible solution could be to allow the user to choose if they want people to see their follower amount or not via Account Settings….

This doesn't stop users from sharing their follower count to others and continuing all raffle projects and competitions.
They could just brag to frustrated users.

no support, please don't add this, bad suggestion, -1, this is very bad
Why do you think this is a bad suggestion?
Please be constructive while making posts; no offense to you or them, but the Scratch Team implements suggestions based off of the reasoning of the supporters and not the amount of them. Thank you!
because i want to see my followers

I think it should only show the latest followers- no “View All” button or count for anyone.
