I have a list of comments features we should include. I had another post with this but I can't find it anymore and I had more features, so….
If I get more ideas I will update. Or if someone else gets an idea.
- Italics and Bold and Underline and Strikethrough
- More emojis - Maybe change the emoji formatting
- Some BBCode?
- Editing - Could be only for scratchers or trusted ones
- Shorten links
- Line breaks (just make breaks that shorten into one break for lists)
- Scratch Blocks

Italics and Bold and Underline and StrikethroughIt would be nice to add some emphasis in comments — but it would be rather discouraging to see "THIS PROJECT IS SO BAD GRRRRRRR". I see no problems with strikethrough, though — I think that could work really well.
We do have plenty of emojis at the moment, although more could be nice. I don't really see any prevalent benefits or downsides to this. More emojis - Maybe change the emoji formatting
I don't feel like we need to change the emoji formatting, simply because the current formatting is simple, and we're all used to it.
That would just make commenting unnecessarily confusing for certain things. Some BBCode?
We can't necessarily trust every Scratcher, and what would be considered a “trusted Scratcher”? Sounds like a rank above Scratcher to me, which is rejected. Editing comments is also rejected in general, anyway. Editing - Could be only for scratchers or trusted ones
Someone could shorten a link to an inappropriate or malicious website, and no one would be able to tell what it is without clicking on it. By then, it may be too late — a device could be full of viruses or a child could be scarred by disturbing imagery. Shorten links
This could lead to a lot of breaks in a comment. With enough spam, it would take forever to scroll through one page of comments. Line breaks (just make breaks that shorten into one break for lists)
Blockspam already exists a lot on the forums — we don't need to bring it to any comments. In addition, I don't think you'd be able to make too much stuff with the 500 character limit. Scratch Blocks

Oh, just realized what you mean No support. That would just make commenting unnecessarily confusing for certain things.
A trusted Scratcher could be someone who hasn't been reported in this type of category. No support. We can't necessarily trust every Scratcher, and what would be considered a “trusted Scratcher”? Sounds like a rank above Scratcher to me, which is rejected. Editing comments is also rejected in general, anyway.
Scratch already detects these types of websites. We could prevent these. No support. Someone could shorten a link to an inappropriate or malicious website, and no one would be able to tell what it is without clicking on it. By then, it may be too late — a device could be full of viruses or a child could be scarred by disturbing imagery.
(I forgot to paste this quote…..) … Line breaks …
As I had said in the first post I made, the comments would filter spam breaks. For example:
wordwould turn into
word
wordand
word
wordwould turn into
word
word
word
word
word
Unrelated!
I heard that you did a lot of April-Fools in the forums. I haven't been able to see any so could you link one?

I'm too lazy to quote it all, so I'll just say it flatly. ;-)
I give support on italics, bold, underline and strike through. I think that'd make it easier to get certain points across via comments. In response to Za-Chary's point of doing a bolded and underlined rude comment, you would just report it like any other comment, so I see no difference.
No support on emojis just because I see no need.
No support on BB Code for the same reason as emojis - I don't feel it is necessary.
No support on editing due to the fact that it has already been discouraged, and can lead to someone saying an inappropriate term, and quickly covering it up. I think this would be counter productive to the Scratch Team's moderation system.
Support for shorten links as long as they are to the Scratch website only. If you mean to another site, then no support for the same reason as Za-Chary above.
Support for line breaks specifically in the way you described. I know of quite a few comments I make that would look a lot prettier if I could make line breaks. ;-)
No support for Scratch Blocks due to block spam.
Phew, all done! I do like a solid chunk of these suggestions!

currently, we only have on comments basic text and emojis.
what I want is the ability to make comments more custom.
here are the long list of colours:
eggplant purple.
blueberry blue.
Snow White. (not to be confused with Snow White from Disney)
tungsten grey.
asparagus yellow.
midnight blue.
ocean blue.
cayenne red.
clover green.
fern green.
orchid purple.
grape purple.
lemon yellow.
spring green.
licorice black.
ice blue.
Q: couldn't #3 be used for spam.
A: yes, but there will be a limit of 1 image per comment.
EDIT: A list is a forum item that looks like this:
what I want is the ability to make comments more custom.
- 1. changing the text font.
I want the ability to be able to change the Font of your text in comments, the fonts would be the ones from your computer, to change the font, select from the bottom bar “change font” - 2. changing the text color.
this is on the forums but not on main site comments, just highlight the part of the comment text you want coloured and click “change color” - 3. pictures in comments.
click “import image” from the bottom bar and select a image, if it detects the photo is inappropriate, it will block it. - 4. some BBCode
quote/ center/ list/ and code/ will be on comments - 5. More emojis
Here they are:these should be on main site comments
- 6. scratchblocks
to use scratch blocks, click the button that says “scratch blocks” and select a block! - 7. text styles!
bold italic underline and strikethrough will be on comments, to use them, highlight the text part and click the button reading “text styles” and select a text style! - 8. lists.
lists should be on the main site comments, but they are not, to use it, click the list buttons and type away with a list! - 9. text size
This is also on the forums, but NOT on comments. to use it, click the bright red A on the toolbar and select a text size! - 10. paste OS/browser.
this is also NOT on comments, but on forum posts, to use it, click the black earth, and see your browser and OS!

1. changing the text font.Support. I'm honestly kinda surprised that this doesn't already exist.
2. changing the text color.Semi-Support. I think this would be kinda cool, but people could use high contrast colors, which wouldn't be cool…

3. pictures in comments. No Support. People could easily spam people with bunches of images in comments. While I do think this would be kinda nice, I feel the cons outweigh the pros… Also, how would it “detect” if it's inappropriate?

My only concern with 1 is that it could take some extra work to implement. Otherwise, I agree with @LegoManiac04.

4 is way too much.
This could happen.

Support for 1 and 2. They seem interesting, though I don't know how useful they would be.
No support for 3: an AI that could accurately detect inappropriate images would be completely unfeasible, if not downright impossible.

There hasn't really been any AI developed that can accurately detect the content of images. Currently for most AI, changing a few pixels can mean the AI will completely mis-label the image. No Support. People could easily spam people with bunches of images in comments. Agreed.I doubt it CleanSpeak probably detects inappriopriate pictures, too.
I'd say it's nearly impossible for a computer to detect whether an image is inappropriate. Such comments on Scratch would have to be moderated entirely by humans, for sure.

In your suggestion, something that you missed out on that I would've supported would be the inclusion of bold, italic and underline text, since I think if we were to make comments more customisable, I would much choose that over a custom font selection, which would kind of ruin the page's design if someone were to use a ton of fonts for a comment, and having the ability to import images should stay in the forums. Support for the colors if you can input a hexadecimal code to get a custom color - I'm sure there is some use to that.

That's why we need dark mode.
