Ai art on scratch.

There's something that I need to tell you, Scratch Team.
A “Yes, but it will help others!” will not help. Just straight answers please!

Okay, so I have been here for a while, and I thought I should write many artists cries.
Look, I am an artist. IT WILL RUIN SO MANY ARTISTS ONLINE AND DESTROY THEIR CAREER AND THEY LEAVE!
Scratch was supposed to be for learning, not ai doing stuff for you.
I know its not coming anytime soon, but this is serious.
There are so many “STOP SCRATCH AI” studios and projects. Search up “STOP SCRATCH AI” I bet your eyes will fall out of their sockets.
If scratch ai comes, I'm afraid I will probably leave. Scratchers need to learn on scratch, with ai NOT controlling. This hurts many, please consider that.
A project telling scratch ai won't be here anytime soon, and many commented “phew” or “Thank god”.
Yes, ai could be used for lots of good things, but many bad.
This is not just about artists. Many new scratchers come a day! It will make ai, just do stuff for them.

It's still in very early experimental stages and they need time to resolve the issues surrounding it, and it is not confirmed that they are adding it soon, as the two posts below state:

At this point - it's too early to really say what the pros and cons of generative AI on Scratch might be. Maybe we should wait until the team has done some exploration and has some results before we leap to judgement. It has been stated here that the Scratch Team doesn't plan to add generative AI to Scratch any time in the near future.

The Scratch Team is not planning on adding AI features anytime soon. They are experimenting with it, but that doesn't mean they are planning on adding it. After all, it's hard to determine whether or not something should be added without experimenting with it. See this blog post for more information: https://scratch.org/blog/inside-scratch-lab-ai-image-generation/

Specifically, note the part which states:
Because of the many challenges with AI image generation, we won’t be including it in Scratch any time soon, even on our Scratch Lab site.
Summarizing the article, there are many problems with AI that the Scratch Team recognizes: not just issues with credit, but also the potential for inappropriate content, the cost, racial/cultural biases, and simply the limitations in getting a “good” image with AI. This was also written several months ago — experimentation with AI is nothing new, but I still think we are very far from seeing it in Scratch, if at all.

So considering that the Scratch Team isn't planning on adding AI to Scratch at the moment, I'm not sure that there needs to be a suggestion against it.

This is all aside from the fact that, if everything works out well, AI in Scratch could actually be very cool and enhance creativity. I'm not going to go into details here, though; the above blog post lists many benefits.

You didn't exactly answer anything… as I already said 100 times, I KNOW that they aren't planning to add it anytime soon.

Hopefully, they will realize that having users make their own assets is a much better way to teach them creativity than making them have to build the assets around an external image (or worse, just reprompting the AI until it gives them exactly what they want). Drawing your own sprites is much easier for the creative process, and having kids that are moderately skilled in digital art is a far more enticing goal than having kids who know how to prompt an AI.

As the other people in this thread have stated, AI is not a feature that will be added soon, and it is reasonable to assume that ST will abandon trying to implement it in the near future. Given the amount of backlash ST has had over it, they will likely stop trying to add AI to the scratch editor.

Even though we aren’t getting AI art anytime soon. We still need to worry about the AI generated project titles/project ideas, ideas people have been requesting.

Ai art on scratch.

I'm assuming this means people can generate costumes/backdrops with AI? Or generate code with AI?

People can already use AI art in scratch right now. It's just not built in to scratch. Although, having it built into Scratch would make it much more abundant, and a big problem.

I can already picture the explore page being filled with nothing but AI slop.

They probably won't add AI because
1. Scratch is about education. AI doesn't teach you coding, it just does it for you.
2. Scratch is about creativity. AI isn't creativity.
3. Scratch is a non-profit group, so there's no need for them to hop on the corporate AI bandwagon

I wish Ai was not a thing to be honest.
I totally agree.

Exactly. Kids are going to be lazy, and less creative. Although scratch ai is not coming anytime soon, this is just a warning.
Using ai will also be using multiple artist's art without credit, which is not good.

I agree. Ai is just going to ruin scratch.
