Teen get's arrested for sarcast violent joke and may go to prison for 8 years.
http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/27/texas-teen-makes-violent-joke-during-video-game-is-jailed-for-months/
A teen playing League of Legends has been arrested for a comment he made online. One player called him insane, and he replied with:
Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,
His next to lines were lol and jk. A canadian woman who read his message thought he was serious and tracked him down. A month later he was arrested.

Ugh. -.-
It's this kind of stuff that just really really angers me. And I'm not talking about the teen's comment, I'm talking about the freaking overreaction!
Has everyone in America just become total scaredy-cats after what happened in December? Do they just immediately assume that anything pertaining to guns is horrible and it will lead to a mass murder? Do they not understand what sarcasm is? Is this entire nation just fueled by fear and paranoia? Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
Oh. My. Freaking. God. Its these kinds of situations that I see that just make me want to tip something over.

No wonder everyone had a problem with, “Pumped Up Kicks”, anything with violence referenced IS obviously going to happen .

Sounds pretty stupid to me. School shootings in the US may be common, and the joke here may be quite cruel, but he clearly didn't mean it seriously.
This is in the article, but there's a petition to release him.

That joke was offensive, but I don't think that guy deserved to go to jail.

I heard about this Yesterday, and I am completely against it! I believe in freedom of speech and although things like this are very serious and not to be joked around with, I cannot believe that anybody would put a teen in prison for eight years for a sarcastic joke! I don't like what he said, and it was really stupid to do so, but still!

Also do people not know what “lol” and “jk” mean? Are people really that stupid?
I really want to yell and scream swear words right now but that would get me banned so aaaargh!
I hate the overly sensitive nature of our country now. “OOOH NOES HE MENTIONED GUNSSS AND KILLING THAT MEANS HE'S GONNA DO IT WE DUN WANT NEWTOWN TOH HAPPEN AGEEEEN.”
This * me off on so many levels.

I can't blame some people - you cannot predict what will happen and with past events, who knows what some people may do next. Some people are just really worried and don't want to get involved with these incidents Also do people not know what “lol” and “jk” mean? Are people really that stupid?

However, I do slightly agree. I feel sorry for that boy.

A good thing to do in things like this is to be open-minded. Thoroughly think through both sides of the argument.
On one side, the violent joke the teen made could have been taken seriously as an actual threat. Most of it is probably because of all of the ‘gun safety’ stuff that's going on right now, and the recent shootings in schools, etc.
On the other side, the kid had every right to say this, what with freedom of speech and such. Plus, he's just a teenager kid playing video games, making a (bad) joke.
I personally think the first argument, the red one, is ridiculous.

Some people can be very paranoid, and they're probably thinking “It's for the best!”, but I don't think they understand sarcasm! I just wonder if they would do the same to a eight year old. How would that be for him and his family? In prison until he's sixteen? Some people are really worried PARANOID.I can't blame some people - you cannot predict what will happen and with past events, who knows what some people may do next. I think that you guys don't take the internet seriously enough…
I think there could be investigation into this. There are confirmed cases of shooters who have announced their plans on 4chan and actually followed through. However there is no way that he can legally be held in prison for a simple comment made nline. Either it's not legal or there is more to the story than the public knows.

Cases like this make me think the government doesn't control America. The terrorists do. The terrorists want to cause panic and fright (hence the terror part). And they do. They basically cause widespread panic. For example, after the Boston Marathon bombings, everyone's now worried that there might be a terrorism threat during their local sporting event. Yet how many terrorism events have happened at sporting events before the Boston bombings? Like none. This is what the terrorists want. We give the terrorists what they want. But I think we shouldn't. This is wrong and against the 1st Amendment.
