Auto-close topics over 120 days old with no posts

Just read the title.
Many forums have this to prevent necroposting, I don't see why we don't.

Your topic Auto-close topics… will be automatically closed in 3 days due to inactivity to prevent necroposting. If you still wish to use this topic, please click here and bump it up.

Definite support… however, I have a bunch of topics to bump before this gets implemented, then.

Either that, or possibly these topics could be easily reopened by the topic owner? (For example, a link to click if it has been autoclosed.)

And if the topic owner is inactive? It would still be useful to keep discussion about an idea in one place, rather than creating a new topic (which they would probably be told was a duplicate anyway).

That sounds pretty decent! Perhaps the click here link would lead to a confirmation box, though, and you would have to post on it to bump it?

But that's exactly what the ST recommends instead of necroposting. We don't want old topics getting bumped up to the top.

Then why do they lock new topics that are duplicates and link to old ones? And what is wrong with old topics anyway?
