By putting #shorts in your projects title
That would be dangerous, as malicious projects would randomly pop up. I like the idea more of it being chosen by the Scratch Team, although this may be more work than they can handle.
Yeah.. and you can request it by pressing a button or something

Scratch isn’t about shorts or fame. Scratch is about coding and sharing your ideas to the world. If the Scratch Team adds more social capabilities, it could result in people thinking of Scratch as social media when it is really a programming language.

When gf clicked
forever
If <(Scratch Shorts?) = [yes]> then
say [Scratch isn’t about shorts or fame. Scratch is about coding and sharing your ideas to the world.]
end

What do you mean? It’s just like a quicker way to go through projects.

Ah, but “Scratch Shorts” makes it sound like it’s a social media thing.

Actually, Youtube Shorts can be more than three minutes long.
However, as for ads, the only ads that will be on Scratch Shorts will be the ads from people advertising their projects since Scratch (the Scratch Foundation) is nonprofit.
As for Scratch Shorts, I'd support. However, it has to be mobile friendly.

Not to sound like a boomer, but reels/shorts on social media are already killing our attention spans. This may just make it worse. I normally don't like saying “This suggestion is unnecessary so it shouldn't be added!!”, but I feel it applies here. Now, I know some of you may just say “If you don't like this feature, you can just not use it!”… Upon applying the same principle to the shorts this is ripping off I was not able to do it and eventually clicked a short and scrolled without even realizing.

TL;DR: shorts features make websites addicting and mess up our attention spans. The only reason websites add shorts is to make us addicted which isn't a goal scratch has

Ironically, if you only read the TL;DR that proves my point on the attention span thing

Sorry to sound snarky here but it's the truth.

The Scratch Team has more important things to worry about than spending a ton of money on an algorithm for a new “project.” Get it?

Jokes and bad puns aside, the Scratch Team is a very small (30 - 40 people) team working to run the site that is Scratch. They also work their butts off doing moderation and don't have time to code an algorithm. Curating projects is also probably not a good idea, as that takes more time to do instead of catching people that are breaking the Community Guidelines.

“nonprofits” “gain profits” do those two things not quite literally contradict each other? Scratch doesn't use ads to make money, it needs things such as donations. Also, if advertisers were to pay Scratch to advertise their company, and Scratch used some CSS cheat to hide the ads while claiming they are displaying them, then there'd probably be some legal issues.

Anyway do we really need another platform going short form? Besides, unlike other short form social medias, Scratch is not inherently only a social media, and it has way better things to be doing then “increasing engagement” by using short form content. Such content becomes very addictive, and leads to endless scrolling. Also, short projects limited to some time around 60s would really limit creativity, especially if users felt pressured to create short form projects to gain the popularity that being featured gets you.

I'm not sure how this would work in Scratch. Scratch isn't meant to be a social media/entertainment app and I don't see how this would help you learn to code. Also, how would this work? How would something be determined to be a short? (Since Scratch is meant for many things, not just passive short videos.)

This is very unethical and can get you in big trouble. I don't think that would be a good idea.

My friend has this idea for scratch where you can scroll through quick scratch games and animations like you can in YouTube shorts. Personally, I think this idea is questionable, but I also think it would be cool!

I just made design https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/1134127210

Agreed, its a good idea

that's… not how ads work. Do you even know how CSS works? And this will make the government angry.

why would they be angry?

just do style=“display:none;” on the ad element and hide it and still make the profits

Scratch is a non-profit organization that won't give money to any of the Scratch users. that's it.

Again scratch team will never give out money to scratch users they will just waste it while scratch will use their money for important stuff like paying their workers and kaj and 4.0

Scratch is non-profit. This means that in order for the Scratch Team to get money, you'll have to donate.
