When you use the Scratch website, you have a selected language in which you use the site. This translates most elements like the editor, the forums, the buttons (mostly). However, the names of the countries which Scratchers give as their locations are not influenced by this language selection. I think it would be better, to also use the translated version to them since not everybody is able to understand the English names.

Different idea: Write the country names always in their local language.

?? They are two different ideas. Although similar, they aren’t the same thing and shouldn’t be on the same topic.

No support, may be confusing for people who only know their native language and not other languages like English, French or Spanish. What if they don't know what Saudi Arabia is in the Hebrew/Arabic languages?

Did you read the suggestion? This suggests to display languages in the selected language. If a user doesn’t know a language, they shouldn’t select it on the site.

oh i just look at them, not a big fan of reading (besides it makes my vocal cords get tired)

I’m afraid you don’t know what the suggestion is. This is to spell them differently - has nothing to do with reading things.

I would not recommend this because if you just have 2 different users from different main languages and they wan to talk about the countries then they would have to translate the name of the country to one of their languages or there would be misunderstandings.
(For example: What is Angleterre?)

I get that point but if you don't know the english country names there is not much less confusion either.
