Why isn't Scratch communicating with my Lego EV3 brick even when it says it's fully connected?

Hello, I recently decided to get out my old Lego Mindstorms EV3 brick, because I wanted to build a plotter machine, and code it with Scratch. I updated the firmware to version 1.10E, connected it to my laptop via Bluetooth, installed and had Scratch Link running, and tested two different browsers. The EV3 connects to scratch, but I keep running into a weird problem—none of the scratch blocks are controlling the motors I have plugged in, and scratch isn't receiving sensor inputs either. I closed all other instances of Scratch, restarted both the EV3 and my computer, but to no avail. Why does Scratch not communicate with my EV3 even when it says that it's connected?

it might be because it’s old? I don’t know that’s my only theory sorry I’m not that much help.
