Hey, alright, how do we want to do this? I'm assuming the two of us are the hosts (and also anyone who joins us ig)
Questions:
- What month are we hoping to do this in? April?
- What do we need?
- A main cabin, (co)leader apps, cabins, then camper signups?
- Daily/weekly activities?
- anything else?
- Is this the second session, or were there sessions I missed (I co-led april 23 session)
I can't find the april 23 MC (maybe it's deleted?) but here're links for reference from the first/april 2023 session
Photoraphy cabin: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/studios/33075703
leader apps: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/802689414

Okay so for april we're probably looking at having our leaders by the end february/first week of march (so we have time for planning), so we'd want leader apps out sometime in the next few weeks?
On cabins/activities:
- I assume you'll lead one cabin, I'll lead another, and then depending how many leaders and how many prospective campers we have we can figure out if we want just two cabins, or if we should have another.
-> If we do have only two cabins we could have fun by making them multi-genre – like a “home ec” cabin that's for baking/cooking/textiles and a idk “library” cabin that's for reading and writing or smt like that.
- Even if we only have a few cabins, I think we'd still want to have the activities reflect lots of different hobbies
-> it seems like all the dailies were pretty chill stuff (looking back through the comments lol), so we could start making a list of prospective dailies.
-> I think it would be interesting to implement a weekly activity, like to have 4 longer activities that connect various aspects - like something where you have to write something, and draw one of the characters… I mean maybe wouldn't work as well bc not everyone is into all the hobbies, but I think there must be a way to make something everyone would enjoy??
- Do you have any ideas for storyline/theme?
- Yeah
- Life happens. it's fun to do it now

“Join a friendly competition, complete activies, get inspired, find motivation in deadlines, or complete some of your goals!” - random pitch/description idea
Hobby Goals: goals campers can set in various hobbies in a variety of formats to gain points, ex. write a certain amount of words, read a certain amount of pages, or spend a certain amount of time exercising? something like that

Helloo <3 I'm so excited to get the chance to host with the both of you! If you don't know me, I'm Kenzie (she/her) and I'm in CST. My hobbies are reading, writing, doing scratch camps, playing with my dogs, playing minecraft, coding, and studying the Bible!
What month are we hoping to do this in? April?
I think April would work best!
Schedule
Since it's a smaller camp and there's three of us, how about each of us lead a cabin and then we just host co-leader signups? We could have the signups open for 2-3 weeks and try to get the co-leaders picked by February 28th. Then we could have camper signups release on March 1st!
Cabins
We could have three cabins, and maybe base those cabins on a hobby of our choice? Some example hobbies include reading, writing, some form of art, etc. I love the idea of multiple-hobby cabins!
Activities
We'd also need a main cabin and activities! Most camps I've seen include dailies and weeklies (or alternatively weekendlies but I prefer weeklies). From other camps, I've seen monthly challenges (for example, do 5 dailies, two weeklies, fan-fiction, etc.) from JWC, reading lists (SRC), cabin wars (most camps have them), bingo (SAC), different forms of word wars (inspired by SWC; some forms include one from SMC, which I forgot the offical name for, and probably more), critiques (SWC, SAC, etc.), and that's all I can think of for now. Is there any that would be hobby related? Or would we do activities for specific hobbies?
Weeklies and Dailies
Hmm, maybe we could make a list of lots of different hobbies? Then we could assign each daily a hobby that the activity will be around. For more popular hobbies, we could do multiple days.
Session
We'll probably want a session theme, any ideas?
Memory Book and Activity Planning
I think us hosts should write all the activities ourselves, or at least which activities should be based on what hobby. I think we should let co-leaders help with the memory book, if we plan on doing one!

Hey Kenzie! Welcome to the team <3 I feel like I've definitely seen you around… also I'mma do an intro too bc intros are fun- I'm Lily (she/her), a crazy, catholic, canadian PST-er, who enjoys reading, writing, ranting/discussing things, participating in scratch camps, theatre, and much more.
Schedule
Sounds like a plan! Who wants to create camper and leader signups? and what sort of questions would we want in both?
- For leaders maybe about you, experience, cabin preference, commitment/time management, and skills?
- For campers something simple like “ Username || Activity level 1-10 || Minute Goal || Cabin Preference ” would probably work right?
On that note, how do we want the goals for campers to work? Is it just an amount of minutes spent working on any hobby, or would it be more specific - like having “Hobby Goals” – goals campers can set in various hobbies in a variety of formats to gain points, ex. write a certain amount of words, read a certain amount of pages, or spend a certain amount of time exercising? something like that
Cabins
I think each of us making our own mulit-hobby cabin (different hobbies for each of us) would be best, it seems more fun for the campers - like if the only cabins were exercise, crochet, and sewing, I personally wouldn't be as interested as if they were reading, writing, and photography - so more hobbies = more appeal if that makes sense?
Weeklies and Dailies
- dailies: we could make a list of lots of different hobbies, then we assign each day a hobby that the activity will be around. For more popular hobbies, we could do multiple days. >> They would also probably be fairly simple/easy to complete, similarly to SWC dailies being short prompts.
- weeklies: I think it would be interesting to have 3 or 4 longer (weekly) activities that include more than one hobby (maybe three, one connected to each cabin?? or would that be a bit strange??)
>> for example something where you have to write something, and draw one of the characters from that writing, and then… something else. I mean maybe wouldn't work as well bc not everyone is into all the hobbies, but I think there must be a way to make something everyone would enjoy??
Activities (ty for the big list btw)
- camp challenge: like do 5 dailies and two weeklies or smt? Could work.
- cabin wars: like have wars based on different hobbies? the one thing about that is that not everyone would be able to participate in each, in SWC everyone writes, so everyone can contribute words to wars, but if it's a variety of hobbies not everyone would be into all of them??? or maybe each war has two parts, and the camper can pick whichever one they can do? also would wars work as well with only 3 cabins?
- bingo: ???
- reading lists: could be fun?
- word wars // critiques: I think these could all be fun, and operate similarly to how they do in SWC – introduced as a daily, then just there for the rest of camp?
Session
Theme ideas??
- Dnd? I just like the vibes lol I think it's fun
- any aesthetics ideas? like ocean or stars? idk it's pretty
- also we should make a session mascot like Gurtle (SWC lol)
Memory Book and Activity Planning
- Yeah, I think between the three of us we'll easily come up with 30 good activities - it's just 10 each.
- Memory books are so cool, we should definitely have one! It would be fun to include the cos, and probably help since memory books can turn into fairly big projects? based on swc ones lol

I think Lily's idea is really cool! but idk how to like make that cohesive lol idk if thats the right word
Weeklies and Dailies
- last session each day was a different hobby
- weeklies: weekly could be a bunch of different hobbies combined
like Lily said heheh
Activities
- Omg Kenzie that was really long and helpful lol
- Cabin wars are my favorite lol we could do like different hobbies for a specific section or someone can attack with a specific hobbie challenge idk lol
- Ooo Reading list is fun but maybe like a list of all the different hobbies included that you have done?
- bingo: how would you do bingo ??
- word wars would be really fun

maybe another camp planning (I promise i'll be active this time lol) :p
Schedule/signups
I'm willing to do anything! Rainy said she'd like to do camper signups, so I'm okay with that
Questions for leader applications: About Me, Time Dedication, Preferences, Time Managment Skills, Collaboration Skills, checkboxes (can you fulfill all of the responsibilities for a co-leader? would you be willing to share a promotional project?)
Questions for camper signups: Username, Cabin Preference, Activity level 1-10, Goal(s)
For goals, I like the idea of campers being able to pick what their goals are as far as hobbies! Here's a few ideas for what could count:
Art || minutes, pieces
Writing || words, minutes, stories
Exercise, Dance, Sports, etc. || minutes
Reading || books, pages, minutes
Music || minutes
Is there any other significant hobbies we should include? Or anything to change?
Cabins
For smaller camps, I usually find three as being the perfect number of cabins. So, that'd mean each of us could lead a cabin and then we could have co-leader applications (usually from what I've seen smaller camps don't get many co-leader applications, so it'd be best to leave it at three cabins because of that as well.)
So, do you mean the cabins would be like this? example 1:
cabin 1 || reading, writing
cabin 2 || any form of art (photography, painting, drawing/sketching, etc.)
cabin 3 || exercise, sports, dance, etc.
or like this? example 2:
cabin 1 || reading
cabin 2 || exercise
cabin 3 || writing
Dailies and Weeklies
What if we incorporated different hobbies into a weekly, as mentioned before?
For example, we could have a weekly where it says to read 20 pages from a Fantasy book (part 1), then make a character to fit into that fantasy world/inspired by it; basically draw the character (part 2), then write a 400 word story with that character (part 3)
Or we could do crawls that are like this:
If you ate breakfast today, write 300 words. If you didn't eat breakfast, write 400 words. If you woke up before 8am, read 50 pages of a non-fiction book. If you woke up after 8am, read 40 pages of a fantasy book.
Or each weekly could be geared towards it's own hobby, for example weekly 1 would be art, weekly 2 would be writing, etc.
Session
Hmmm, here's some ideas:
fairy tales, galaxy/stars/etc, nature, idk what else
I haven't ever done dnd before, so I don't know how that would look.
Yesss that'd be awesome to have a mascot <33
Activities
The previous activities were just suggestions from previous camps I've seen, I wasn't saying we have to do all of them haha <3
Editing a bit of activities for the camp:
- camp challenge: I think this one could be done. Here's an example: “Complete all of these activities for 2,000 cabin points: Write a 500 word Fan-Fiction involving some people participating in camp, sleep before 11pm three nights in a row, complete 10 dailies, complete 2 weeklies, reach one of your hobby goals.”
- cabin wars: Hmm, we should figure out a way to do this since there's multiple hobbies. That's if we want to do this.
- maybe make a prompt list? since reading is just for one hobby, we could make a prompt list (or even turn it into a bingo board) that just contains phrase words relating towards things that could be used for any hobby. For example: “Jungle, Pink, Fantasy, Mouse, etc.” They'd have to be nouns, and they could be related or just random.
- We could do ‘hobby wars’ maybe? For example, we could have different types of ‘hobby wars’. Maybe we could do something like word wars, where you try writing as many words possible in a set amount of time. Art Piece trading, where you submit an art piece and receive one and you both redraw the piece in your style. Reading wars, where both people read as many words as they can in a set amount of time (and then maybe do a short blurb containing what they read for comprehension or something). Just some ideas!

Schedule
- Rainy will put out camper signups around march 1st
- who would like to be the person messaged for pinging for camper signups? like on the leader apps, if someone finds them and is interested in being a camper, we have something like “message ___ on her profile to be pinged when camper signups come out”? I would be okay with that, as I've already started ping lists up above.
- I can put out leader apps, any of the three of us can, really. I think the questions in the quote below are good, and other than that it's just creating the project/slides, which whoever it is can do as soon we decide on our session theme.
I think the below are great examples for the Hobby goals! I think goals should be highly customizable - like someone who paints a lot of complete works might want to do a pieces goal, while someone who's working on a big project or just sketches a lot might want to do minutes (for art).
Maybe we can put the ones below as our examples in the camper signups, but also have a note along the lines of “if you have a goal idea outside of those listed, just ask if it would apply!” and then we can tell them whether it's a valid goal or help them make it a valid goal?
Cabins
I agree, three cabins seems good, and I think we're a fairly solid hosting team. One of us leads each, and we hope to get somewhere between 3 and 6 cos (some/all of us could have multiple cos if wanted/available). And if there's a huge amount of awesome applications, we can always make the decision to expand, by one cabin or so, right?
Example 1! I think it would attract more campers, and could be really fun to lead/storyline oppurtunities!
On that note, do you guys have any cabin preferences? I'd personally go for reading, writing, art, photography, or theatre
I think it should stay a bit general, so the most campers can connect – something like idk jiu-jitsu might not be the best fit compared to reading, but any hobby applies, not just ones that have been mentioned!
Weeklies and Dailies
- Each daily is focused on a specific hobby, a few of the dailies could be introducing various Hobby Wars (see below)
- weeklies: weekly could be a bunch of different hobbies combined
For example, we could have a weekly where it says to read 20 pages from a Fantasy book (part 1), then make a character to fit into that fantasy world/inspired by it; basically draw the character (part 2), then write a 400 word story with that character (part 3)
I personally think this would work better than each weekly could be geared towards it's own hobby, for example weekly 1 would be art, weekly 2 would be writing, etc., because if I didn't like to write, I might not do a writing-focused weekly, but I might do a bit of writing while working on a bigger weekly? does that mindset make sense or is it a me thing? I mean, I guess the activities could still be pretty simple but… yeah.
Activities
- Camp challenge: I think this one would be fun, but should maybe be more personal focused, so like “Complete all of these activities for ___ cabin points: sleep before 10pm three nights in a row, complete 10 dailies, complete 2 weeklies, and reach one of your hobby goals!” and not include anything specific to a certain hobby - it should be able to easily apply to everyone in camp?
- Cabin wars are my favorite lol we could do like different hobbies for a specific section or someone can attack with a specific hobbie challenge
>> crawls seem like a good idea for how cabin wars could work!
>> OR we could have wars more like “Complete all of these activities as a cabin in ___ hours to gain ___ points!” and then have a variety of challenges that can be completed by varying numbers of people. And extra challenges like do an activity outside, drink water, etc.?
- I like the idea of a big list of activity suggestions/challenges… this connects to our plan for dailies tho, so how do we keep them seperate? Or are the activity list just more dailies you can do, just not for points?
>> prompt list could be one way to do it
- Hobby Wars: Maybe we could do something like word wars, where you try writing as many words possible in a set amount of time. Art Piece trading, where you submit an art piece and receive one and you both redraw the piece in your style. Reading wars, where both people read as many words as they can in a set amount of time (and then maybe do a short blurb containing what they read for comprehension or something).
>> I really like this! I think we can have each type of war as it's own project (for organization) and implement them as dailies originally, to make sure most people notice them and have a day to try it out, instead of always passing over it to do a daily?
Session
Theme ideas:
- stars/sky/galaxy, ocean, fairy tales, nature
- Mascot ideas? It should probably fit into our theme in someway too.
- I also feel like a storyline would be nice. Seconded!
So, any theme/storyline/mascot ideas? We don't have to start with a theme, if you think of a cool storyline we could choose a theme that fits it, or a mascot and we can build a story and theme around them.
Memory Book and Activity Planning
- Alright, the three of us will create a list of dailies!
- For memory book, what sort of things would we like to include?
> some SWC-inspired suggestions: comment screenshots, camp recap, cabin quotes/mlts/etc, cabin wars stats?
Okay wow I think that's everything… camp planning is a lot of work loll

Questions for leader applications: About Me, Time Dedication, Preferences, Time Managment Skills, Collaboration Skills, checkboxes (can you fulfill all of the responsibilities for a co-leader? would you be willing to share a promotional project?)
Questions for camper signups: Username, Cabin Preference, Activity level 1-10, Goal(s), are you okay with being screenshotted/quoted in the memory book (Yes, Ask First, or Never)

Art || minutes, pieces
Writing || words, minutes, stories
Exercise, Dance, Sports, etc. || minutes
Reading || books, pages, minutes
Music || minutes

For example if you ate breakfast today, write 300 words. If you didn't eat breakfast, write 400 words. If you woke up before 8am, read 50 pages of a non-fiction book. If you woke up after 8am, read 40 pages of a fantasy book.This allows a wide variety of campers to be able to complete the activity, and would make it different from dailies which would be more of specific hobby challenges.
>> OR we could have wars more like “Complete all of these activities as a cabin in ___ hours to gain ___ points!” and then have a variety of challenges that can be completed by varying numbers of people. And extra challenges like do an activity outside, drink water, etc.?

>> prompt list could be one way to do it
since reading is just for one hobby, we could make a prompt list (or even turn it into a bingo board) that just contains phrase words relating towards things that could be used for any hobby. For example: “Jungle, Pink, Fantasy, Mouse, etc.” They'd have to be nouns, and they could be related or just random.- bingo: make a bingo of activites they can try to complete by the end of camp? could be cool!
- Hobby Wars: Maybe we could do something like word wars, where you try writing as many words possible in a set amount of time. Art Piece trading, where you submit an art piece and receive one and you both redraw the piece in your style. Schedule/signups
I'm willing to do anything! Rainy said she'd like to do camper signups, so I'm okay with that![]()
Questions for leader applications: About Me, Time Dedication, Preferences, Time Managment Skills, Collaboration Skills, checkboxes (can you fulfill all of the responsibilities for a co-leader? would you be willing to share a promotional project?)
Questions for camper signups: Username, Cabin Preference, Activity level 1-10, Goal(s)
I think that is perfect! Do you wanna do the (co) leader signups?
So, do you mean the cabins would be like this? example 1:
cabin 1 || reading, writing
cabin 2 || any form of art (photography, painting, drawing/sketching, etc.)
cabin 3 || exercise, sports, dance, etc.
or like this? example 2:
cabin 1 || reading
cabin 2 || exercise
cabin 3 || writing
How would we do the first option though so do we still call each cabin by like the category? So like this:
cabin 1 >> I actually dont know about the reading and writing one hmmm
cabin 2 >> Art
cabin 3 >> exercise
so like that?

also if we want to do a mascot, we should definitely decide on our theme. So say we're doing galaxy/stars then our mascot could be an alien cat with or something?

Cabin themes/preferences
Idk what to call this lol
I think things like art, reading and writing are really good, but I would definitely also add theatre, maybe self-care? is that a hobby lol :> Thing like crocheting or knitting

Dailies and Weeklies
I think dailies are pretty straightforward but for weeklies I think we can alternate between different types of weeklies like you know those pick your own adventure type of things? I think those are really cool, it would be complicated though
