There should be Challenges!

There should be a challenge section, with there being a new challenge for you to solve to sharpen your skills. It could be arranged from Easy to Master so beginners can try to solve them without taking away learning for the experts as well.

There would also be debugging challenges, where you would have to see what's wrong and how to fix it.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Idea from The-Sushi-Cat
There could a studio or something where you suggest challenges to get added on!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
LIke for example:
Mock up by Rosics

____________________________________________________________________________________________________
And it would ask you…
How to make a variable randomized?
That would be like a Normal Challenge.
Scratchers would be able to make their own challenges as well!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
It would recommend you challenges every day you log on based on where your at, and would help you understand things more.
Soon, you would be able to do a quiz, and you would have to do an “assignment” on like how to bounce things or etc.
What do you think? Tell me if I need to improve!
—-This isn't about badges, or having contests—-
think about it as a daily puzzle, and that puzzle teaches you something each day, or helps you continue to sharpen your skills.

Are we talking about scripts? It may be helpful to incorporate premade ranges of difficulty of scripts in Ideas if there is not one already.

This is probably more so on something that I picture Scratch for Schools doing versus on mainstream. Premade “challenge” scripts could be helpful in introducing new Scratchers getting started with code, but we have Ideas here that are kind of related to what you are suggesting?

I'm suggesting like a daily ingestion of like practicing code, like how Scrachers could make some of these challenges themself.
Some of them could be just scripts, but maybe harder ones could be like making a mini game. It's supposed to help you keep your ideas and mindset of the engine sharp and just help you practice. Its really just focused for people who have the hang of scratch, but want to up their level of knowledge and grow, because ideas are limited to the beginners in my opinion.

Well, first, the person who made the challenge would set up correct scripts, which they would have to check if it works. It could have multiple correct scripts, but having them check it allows checkpoints and encouraging messages when something goes correct.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense - you are essentially suggesting daily challenges, almost.

In order for this to work, it would have to be implemented with education in mind - how could we open these challenges to all that will not just encourage them to start coding, or take on a higher difficulty when they're ready? This is an open-minded question we would have to consider going into it.

A few limitations with your idea would be that if there is some sort of “prize” or “badges” attached to it - (such as, completing all the daily challenges to get a month completed badge), while seemingly harmless in of itself, it may motivate Scratchers to participate for the wrong reasons. We need to remember that Scratch is first and foremost an education site - and NOT Roblox. As with the content of your challenges, I like the idea of prompting users to challenge themselves every day with working on a new but simple project, and if implemented correctly would most certainly promote the “education” aspect.

However, I also would like to add that we already have Scratch Design Studios, which generally change the theme every month. (such as, platformer games or dress-up games, etc) Furthermore, there may only be so many challenges that even if it came down to a handful of selected Scratchers to make them, I'm sure there will probably be repeats, since we're talking on a daily basis. The system would probably work better if it were monthly.

Thanks for the feedback! I think that it wouldn't be just a certain group of Scratchers, but maybe selected challenges that people send to scratch to get added in. I don't think there should be badges though. That would take away the main lesson of learning.

I don’t think its about making a contest
it’s about testing a scratcher a skill or something

7.17 Official contests/challenges on Scratch
Scratchers often host contests about making a certain type of Scratch project, and it has been suggested that the Scratch Team should host an official contest. However, Scratch is not about competition; the Scratch Team would prefer to emphasize the fun of creativity and learning without doing so in a competitive environment. Scratchers are still allowed to host their own contests, but the Scratch Team will not hold any official contests.

Thats not what I saidl. Its not a competition, but like practicing you skills.

I am all for the idea of users completing challenges for the sake of practicing versus competition. Given the intention is to practice and refine one's coding skills and perhaps give them a challenge would be an interesting concept. I especially think it could perhaps be maneuvered into Scratch for schools. (challenges that teachers assign students part of their class, that is if that doesn't already exist?)

I could make this by editing scratch GUI.

same goes for any suggestion about the editor tbh.
