Welcome to Scratch’s first Shopetition! Shop owners, please take this opportunity to potentially be named as the Best Shop of the Season! If you are interested, please see the information below on how the First Scratch Shopetition will unfold!

Before we explain how to compete, first, we need to explain Shopetition.

The Shopetition is an event where shops can compete for titles, such as Best Shop of the Season. Three judges will host the Shopetition, usually shop owners or Scratchers with important roles. The Shopetition occurs twice every year, once in the Summer and once in the Winter. Any shop can be part of the Shopetition, as long as they meet the requirements:

- Have staff other than the shop owner
- The shop have at least one order

THE STAGES OF THE SHOPETITION

The Shopetition will have three stages, the Qualifying stage, the Knockout stage, and the Finals.

Qualifying Stage

The Qualifying stage will last the longest. To begin, shops will be split into several groups of three. Lasting for 17 days, staff members will rush to gain points for their shop. To earn points, the rating from a review is considered. Every score higher than a 7/10 is a point. Every score lower than 7/10 takes away a point. The two shops with the highest number of points at the end of the 17 days qualify for the Knockout stage. The shop with the least amount of points is eliminated. Groups are created by me or judges. In the event of a tie, the shop that complete less orders is victorious.

Qualifying Stage Rules
-Members of a shop cannot order at the shop they work at.
-Customers can only make two orders at a shop before their next orders do not count. The customer should notify one of the judges when ordering a 3rd order and shop owners should do the same.
-Review orders do not count.
-Alt accounts cannot be used to exploit ordering. If we think an alt account was used, the shop can be disqualified from the Shopetition.
-The rating given by a customer should not be motivated by the Shopetition. The rating should strictly reflect the quality and service of the order.

Knockout Stage

After the Qualifying Stage comes the Knockout stage. During the knockout stage, each shop will be paired with a different shop and one representative from each shop will compete the other to create the best creation. A creation can be three things. Art, code, or music. Shops that offer more than one of these things, such as art and code, will have to choose one. A prompt or theme will be given for the creation, which will be different for each pair of shops. The representatives will have until the deadline to work on this. On the deadline, the creations should be submitted on this post and the judges will rate each creation. The creation with a higher total rating from the judges qualifies. If one of the judges happens to be a member of a shop they are rating, a backup judge will rate the creation. The representative must be a staff member at the shop and they cannot be the representative in the finals or in any other knockout stage, so shops should be strategic. After the Knockout Stage, if the number of shops is still too high, another knockout stage will be put into play.

Knockout Stage Rules
-Scratchers who may be a representative who are members of more than one shop must choose a shop to represent.
-Shop owners cannot force a staff member to represent their shop. A better choice would be to choose one of the volunteers.
-When one of the judges is a shop owner or a member of one of the shops, a backup judge will be appointed to rate the creation to avoid bias.
-Submissions must be on time. Submissions after the deadline will not be accepted, so it is best to submit whatever you have left if you are unfinished.

Finals

After the end of the Knockout stage, two to five shops should remain. These are the finalists. The final round is similar to the Knockout stage, but slightly different. At this stage, all of the shops will nominate one or two representatives to create something for the judges, based on a theme or prompt. This can be one artist and one coder, and for music-only shops, one musician. These representatives may also not be a representative from the Knockout stage, so choosing representatives should be a strategic decision. These members will compete in three categories, Art, Code, and Music, but the one representative that tallies up the most points from the judges is named Best Staff Member of the Season. And the shop in which they represent is named Best Shop of the Season. A shop cannot have two representative with the same job, and music representatives can only be from music-only shops.

The same rules of the Knockout stage apply to the Finals stage.

Best Staff Member of the Season - The staff member that tallied the most points in the finals
Best Shop for Art - The shop that receives the highest points in the art category
Best Shop for Code - The shop that receives the highest points in the code category
Best Shop for Music - The shop that receives the highest points in the music category

Honorable Mentions:
Shop of highest quality and service - The shop with the highest score in the qualifying rounds
Runner Up Shop - The shop that receives that receives the second most points in the finals

List of commonly missed rules
-In the case of a tie in the qualifying stage, the shop with less complete orders is victorious.
-Customers can only make two orders before the next orders do not count.
-Representatives from the knockout stage cannot be representatives in the finals.
-Shops that offer more than one service choose which service they will make some out of.
-Scratchers who work at multiple shops can only be a representative of one.
-Music representatives can only be from music-only shops in the finals.

When creating a similar version of The Shopetition, please ask permission from @bombardingppl or members closely affiliated with The Shopetition.

If permission to create a close version of The Shopetition is granted, please include credit with the link of the most recent Shopetition post and the host (currently @bombardingppl)

Remember that the opportunity of hosting The Shopetition may be passed to other Scratchers and that there being copies of The Shopetition or there being similar competitions is against our wishes. Please think before you make a copy.

Do not try to exploit these rules or other rules to create copies of The Shopetition.

Hosting
This section describes the rights of anybody that hosts The Shopetition.

It is up to the host to create dates, awards, banners and icons, and changes.

The core system of The Shopetition cannot be changed, only changes to improve or make the competition fairer are allowed.

It is not guaranteed that others will be able to host.

I mean, if you can get a team of staff as well as completing order before the competition starts, technically you could, but even then, if you won the competition or won an award it would really just be given to a temporary shop. So I guess you could, make a shop just for this event, but it would be difficult to even meet the requirements to enter.
