Go Swift or Go Small! The Box of Delights Topic
plus The Midnight Folk

The Quick Rundown of THE BOX OF DELIGHTS
Time and Tide and Buttered Eggs wait for no man.

Welcome to the topic for the classic children's fantasy book and the innovative 1984 BBC TV show, The Box of Delights, the book that it is a sequel to and its BBC Radio 4 version, The Midnight Folk, and its other adaptations throughout the years.

The Box of Delights was released in 1935 whereas The Midnight Folk was released in 1927.

What is THE BOX OF DELIGHTS?
What's a posset?

For those unfamiliar with the book and its plot, here is a Wikipedia excerpt explaining the premise and setup;
Kay Harker is returning from boarding school when he finds himself mixed up in a battle to possess a magical box. It allows the owner to shrink in size, to fly swiftly, to go into the past and to experience the magical wonders contained within the box.

The current owner of the box is an old Punch and Judy man called Cole Hawlings whom Harker meets at the railway station. They develop an instant rapport, which leads Hawlings to confide that he is being chased by a magician called Abner Brown and his gang, which includes Harker's former governess. For safety, Hawlings entrusts the box to Harker. The schoolboy then goes on to have many adventures as he protects the box from those who wish to use it for bad deeds.
The BBC TV show strays from the original book in many places, but is nevertheless just as enchanting as the original book. If you'd like to watch it, you can get a second-hand copy of the DVD.

Hopefully you've enjoyed this little explanation.

How Not to Talk About THE BOX OF DELIGHTS
Darkness was already closing in. There was a kind of glare in the evil heaven.

There are some ground rules first. The first rule you should follow is to respect people's opinions. People are subject to free speech and are allowed to form their own opinions. Do not start a fight over an opinion, or anything else for that matter. The second rule is to never leave spoilers unmarked. A simple “SPOILER ALERT” is not enough. I find myself skipping up and down the page, and they might see the spoiler before the alert. Instead, use “color=transparent” or other ways to conceal the spoiler, thus forcing the user to reveal the spoiler. The third rule is to never talk to people as if you were talking them down. This should go without saying, really. The final rule is to always follow the Community Guidelines when partaking in conversation. Thank you.

If you see someone, tell someone that this topic exists by putting it in your signature. And while you're at it, have you got any green cheese?
