Spiffing up the Explore page (formerly "a better explore page")

Right now, when I open up the explore tab, here's what I see:

projects with 10000+ views that are really popular, and if I scroll down, I just see the same sort of thing.
I think everyone knows here that the ‘explore’ page is the least clicked of the three tabs, and it's just sorta sitting there. if I go into the other tabs of the explore page, I see sorta cruddy projects (i mean that in the best way possible).

So I think that the explore page should be more tailored to the scratcher's needs, sorta like the front page, but not quite so.

First, it should have a ‘Projects by Scratchers I’m Following' tab. This would be like the front page, but it would have lots of projects, sorta like when you go on your profile and go to “shared projects” and press “view all”. It would have a lot of projects by your following there.

Next, it should have a ‘Projects loved and/or favorited by scratchers I’m following' tab. This would be pretty self-explanatory, like the ‘view all’ of ‘shared projects’ again…

Here's where it gets interesting. It would have a “projects you might be interested in” section, which just goes through the projects you loved or favorited and seeing what tags they have in common, if they have any. This would be way more effective than just showing “art, animations, etc.” and having me see random coloring contests and warrior cats music videos I don't care about. This would bring me projects I'd actually like.

in conclusion, I think these new features would really get scratchers attracted to the explore page. It would be much better than just seeing random projects listed under tags, and would actually bring me to love and favorite more projects and support new scratchers and scratchers I already know more.

support for PLBSIF and PBSIF sections

no support for the “projects you might be interested in”, and here's why: it would require serious server capabilities to get all those tags, evaluate 6-7 million projects, and spit out a couple dozen projects that were only found through the tags. second, some people don't like to tag correctly, so you will get irrelevant results sometimes. third, it would be bubbling you in, like google or youtube does. and last, if for example you previously loved an art project (like a blender rendering or inkscape logo), then you may not like to see tons of warrior cat art contests show up in that section. so while I would absolutely love if we could get recommended projects, it's just not feasible without perfect servers and a perfect correctly-tagging community

I agree very much. The explore tab is sort of pointless since it has all of the front paged projects.
Therefore, I HIGHLY support the idea of seeing projects by the scratchers that I follow.
