Books with neurodivergent characters

For any books with neurodivergent characters. The books don't have to explicitly state the characters are neurodivergent, it can just be what you believe. Anything that falls under neurodivergent is allowed.

Wings of Fire, it’s a character who is believed to have synthesia. Note she is canonically dead and only appears in one book, as that book is a spinoff that takes place 2000 years in the past.

★ Most books by Sally J. Pla and Elle McNicoll have autistic main characters
★ Rules by Cynthia Lord (main character's brother David is autistic)
★ Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt (main character Ally is dyslexic)
★ Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin (main character Rose is autistic)
★ Anything But Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin (main character Jason is autistic)
★ The Rip and Red Series by Phil Bildner (Red is autistic)
★ A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold (Bat is autistic)
★ Things Seen From Above by Shelley Pearsall (I think Joey (a main character) has autism and dyslexia, it also mentions that a minor character is autistic)

Books with neurodivergent characters

Theres a book called ‘When I See Blue’ by Lily Bailey, and It's about a boy with OCD. I remember picking it up at my school library and that it was rlly good. I also read halfway through a book called ‘The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime’ and the main character shows signs of being on the autism spectrum. It was also really good

Books with neurodivergent characters

The Real Boy by Anne Ursu (autistic protagonist; fantasy novel)
The Ojja-Wojja by Magdalene Visaggio (autistic protagonist; fantasy/horror graphic novel)
The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan (ADHD protagonist and side characters; it's complicated but the rep honestly isn't the best IMO, but it is stated)

Then for some that I believe are ND, but as far as I know it's not confirmed:
The Best Liars in Riverview (autistic protagonist) and The House That Whispers (ADHD protagonist; protagonist's sister may be autistic) by Lin Thompson (both protagonists are also trans or nonbinary)
The Lost Girl and Not Quite a Ghost by Anne Ursu (autistic protagonist)
Yokaiden by Nina Matsumoto (autistic protagonist)

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. The main protagonist, Christopher, is autistic. It's a great read and I recommend checking it out.
There is a lot of language, though, so watch out for that.

Books with neurodivergent characters

Hello, I have a recc list
Can You see Me series - Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott (EEK, super good. Main Character is Autistic and so is one of the writers, thats what makes it o great- she was only a child when she collaborated )
Geek Girl - Holly Smale (main character is confirmed to be Autistic after author was diagnosed after finishing the series and it got made into a netflix show)
A Kind Of Spark - Elle Mcnicoll (I love all her books, they all feature neurodivergent characters and are usually heart-warming) also tv show
Murder Most Unladylike series and also The ministry of unladylike activity - Robin Stevens (My favourite series ever! Sure, i is set before ww2 but Daisy is confirmed to have Audhd, May is confirmed to have ADHD and Fionnuala is confirmed Autistic)
The London Eye Mystery Siobhan Dowd (Twisty, turny plot and main character describes his brain as a ‘computer’, and although they aren't too explicit about it, he's also Autistic)
Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan (CANNOT RATE ENOUGH! I love mythology! Also, most main characters are confirmed to have ADHD and Dyslexia, apparently it makes them better at ancient Greek and fighting) they made movies and tv show
Frankies World - Aofie Dooley (Really funny and art syle is cute. Um, the main character explores herself through author's own experiences as someone who is Autistic)
A Different Sort of Normal Abigail Balfe - this is about how peoples brains work, and a sort of guide to Autsim. Its hilarious and factual
The Infinite - Patience Agbabi - Mian charcater and author are Autistic and the plot is great, whole trilogy of time-traveling fun
Check Mates Stewart Foster (I still know nothing about chess, but it is a great book! The main character has ADHD and it is shown it DOES NOT HOLD U BACK)

NB : I said ‘main character’ instead of their name (Percy, Harriet, Addie etc) because it might be misleading to stick a name in without reading the book, it does not make it clear whether that's a side character or not

I recently read the graphic novel Stand Up! by Tori Sharp; one of the main characters has ADHD and the other is autistic (and the author is AuDHD herself).

I read some of those books years ago (all the ones my library had - not all of them are available in the US) and I loved them at the time. I didn't know any of them were neurodivergent, that's cool!

Yes, its a pretty recent development, but it was confirmed after the Authors initial diagnosis, because most authors put themselves into their characters. I always love knowing that theres a shred of truth in each work of fiction
I didn't know which books you could find varied on location- i think thats why the titles are different in osme places?

Murder most unladylike and the ministry of unladylike activity
So, for years people asked if daisy was autistic and robin Stevens always said no but in author's note in body in the blitz she said daisy is audhd nuala is autistic and may is adhd. She only realised it because she was diagnosed herself. By the way i guessed may ond kind of nuala

The midnighters
In author note she confirms ema as nd(not specified what)

Books with neurodivergent characters

I know that the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and a lot of the books written by Rick Riordan have characters with ADHD, dyslexia, Autism maybe, People with disablitlys, and queer people. I would highly recommend these books for someone looking for books with diversity.
