If it's convenient, you can try transferring files over your network (rather than using a MicroSD adapter, because most computers I've come across don't have a dedicated slot) if you can virtualize Windows 8.1– (It doesn't work on Win11) it's completely free.

Apologies for the parenthetical overuse!
I've got an SD card reader

Nice, that'll work.

Am I the only one who uses their 3DS as a primary music player?

Probably not. I've always dreamed of just opening Ocarina of Time for ambient music, and if I'm not mistaken, Super Smash Bros has a music player.
(I probably am; I lost my game card for it in 2016)

alright how many people here have homebrewed 3DS systems
I homebrewed my O3DSXL in November 2024
I type dates like that for future-proofing as not all people read post dates for some reason

I'm a bit dense regarding mods, but I managed to do it. There's one part where you need to time a button press but if you fail you can just try again.
…what?
(did you use 3ds.hacks.guide?)

Chances that you brick it are essentially as long as you follow the info detailed here!
Make sure you use the correct exploit for your system version and model, follow all instructions fully.
Reminder to not use video guides as they can be outdated, especially considering there has been changes to what is needed for modding fairly recently (within the last 2 years).
As long as you follow the guide it's pretty much impossible to brick afterwards (unless you do something stupid in GM9, but that shouldn't happen as it locks low-level processes behind a button combo)

I love the 3DS soooooo much I want a 3DS but I already have a Switch Lite and if I wanted to use an emulator I'd have to have a super advanced expensive gaming computer for the games to actually run. All I got is this goofy aaa Chromebook with a broken k key.

Maybe when I'm older lel

You don't need a fancy computer. The New 3DS literally ran on a 4GB microSD card and 128 MEGABYTES of RAM. For comparison, an iPad 9 has 3 GIGABYTES of RAM, and most laptop computers have at least 8.

well it has puyo puyo so its immediately great
except it could get kinda boring once you finish most of the achievements/stamps. but it depends on the player i guess. Its fun and interactive tho, an example i like is when you use the microphone to talk to the vocaloids :D

lmao
that said while I probably wouldn't get much out of it by myself i'll get it to play with my friends, I think I'll be allowed to bring my 3DS on an upcoming field trip so stuff like that would be perfect
