Possible solution to counteracting with hate
Hate and similar things have become a big issue on scratch, but this suggestion might be able to help with that.
I suggest making a button in settings called “{enter name here when I find good name :p}”.
here is an idea from the following forumers:
What would it do?
It would close:
Profile Comments
Project Comments
Studio Comments where the user is the studio owner
It would also prevent the user from receiving messages from elsewhere, and from commenting themselves.
How would this help counteract hate?
-User would stop receiving hate (being told to them)
-Would give user chance to calm down
-Would let user report all of the hate comments
-Saying mean things to others themselves – you can say bad things when you're stressed or mad without thinking about it
-Would give user chance to contact ST
Aside from counteracting hate, it could also help with several other things.
What do you think? Please let me know

“Lockdown Assets”I personally like “Lockdown,” because it's pretty clear. There could maybe be a little question mark icon or something explaining what lockdown was. And I'm sorry if there was already a post on this, but in order to disable the lockdown, would the user just click the Lockdown (or whatever it'll be called) button again?
“Turn Off All Comments”
“Lock All Comments”
etc.

I think this is a good suggestion on the surface, mainly the part about closing all of your comments from clicking a single button. However, I'm a little unsure about the reasoning “You can say bad things when you're stressed or mad without thinking about it.” I agree with this sentence, but if someone is currently not thinking rationally enough to stop themselves from writing bad comments, then how could they be thinking rationally enough to click this button or contact the Scratch Team?

I said that this would help them calm down about the situation, and then they could consider contacting ST.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I think this button would be considered one of the user's last resorts. With common sense*, they'd know that it's a very serious decision to close everything. I have no idea if it's just me, but when I am presented with a serious decision like clicking this button, I think clearly again, just for a short period of time, but enough.
Additionally, if the user were to click the button when they are not thinking rationally, for the most part, the button is harmless. This button doesn't automatically report comments or contact ST (it simply gives the user the chance too if that's what they wish, people can already do that irrationally without this button), it just closes comments and prevents messages and commenting yourself.
*some people don't have it, but…

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I'm not worried about the possibility that someone “accidentally” uses this button. As you stated, using the button itself is harmless. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I think this button would be considered one of the user's last resorts. I am more concerned about its intended usefulness. Think about most of the people who lack common sense: when someone is feeling angry, they will want to say bad things. In particular, someone who lacks common sense and is angry will probably not think to use this button that you suggested; their mind will likely default to saying bad things instead. (The fact that this button would be tucked away in Settings — which is good — makes it even less likely that someone would think to use it.)
For those who do have common sense, enough to the point that they would actually use the button in such a situation, I would think that their common sense would allow them to just step away from the situation (e.g. by logging off of Scratch and leaving the computer), in which case they don't need the button you suggest.
So in other words, regarding your reasoning that this suggestion would be good because it will allow users to calm down: I worry that this will not actually help the users that need calming down.
That being said, this is only about one reason for your suggestion. I haven't even commented on your other reasons, and in particular “User would stop receiving hate (being told to them)” is a very good reason for your suggestion, so it still has merit.

While it only takes one rational decision to click the button, it takes more then that and definitly more self control to prevent yourself from saying anything bad. Furthermore, others could assist in pressing the button (such as parents or friends, if the user was to be affected by something irl), or the user could press the button before an event which they suspect might cause them to become unable to maintain a good temper.then they could consider contacting ST.What I mean is, if someone is not thinking rationally due to being angry, what would cause them to think rationally enough to click that button in the first place? This makes sense, sometimes, muting a certain person isn't enough to stop a flame war, and it might be more helpful so that others can't keep attempting to engage the controversy with them the ST should be able to force this active, thats the only thing I have to add

True. Plus, they can also make projects about mutes to make them look bad. This makes sense, sometimes, muting a certain person isn't enough to stop a flame war, and it might be more helpful so that others can't keep attempting to engage the controversy with them the ST should be able to force this active, thats the only thing I have to add
Don't get me started on when I was in a phase doing that in the past 2 years.

I think this would be used more by people who don' want notifications, or people who are doing it as a joke than people who actually are experiencing hate/harassment.

I don't think that's true, because when they active this– they can comment either themselves, and no one can comment on their studios, profile, or projects. People wouldn't do that just to not receive notifications. Sure people can do it as a joke, but I think the people that are saved from hate/harassment pay off for just a few people joking around with it. I think this would be used more by people who don' want notifications, or people who are doing it as a joke than people who actually are experiencing hate/harassment.

I see no reason whats wrong with that, that will also be a useful function of the feature I think this would be used more by people who don' want notifications, or people who are doing it as a joke than people who actually are experiencing hate/harassment.

I support :)
Still though, they might not “lack common sense” but just be angry. If they do have common sense then they would click the button and calm down.
(#9)
In particular, someone who lacks common sense and is angry will probably not think to use this button that you suggested; their mind will likely default to saying bad things instead.

If they calmed down, theres no point in clicking the button… What Za-chary is refering to is that if they were to have common sense, they wouldn't need the button as they'd just, ya know, stop using scratch. If they didn't, then they wouldn't click the button. (its like “If you weren't bad, you won't go stab someone, if you were bad, you won't put on handcuffs to stop yourself from stabbing someone” where the button in this case is similar to the handcuffs) I support :)(#9)

(#18)Am I understanding the situation correctly - the user is receiving hate from others, and clicks the button to close comments/stop getting angry etc.?If they calmed down, theres no point in clicking the button… What Za-chary is refering to is that if they were to have common sense, they wouldn't need the button as they'd just, ya know, stop using scratch. if so then they don't have to “stop using scratch” if they want to keep using scratch (if that makes any sense). They probably wouldn't be so angry that they refuse to click the button
although i do get your point and i'm sorry if my post was like overly defensive or anything
