Minimum requirement for characters/words on OPs in the suggestions forum

Edit: Huge thanks to @qwerty_wasd_gone for the less confusing title

Edit 3: If this suggestion gets implemented / accepted, this has a word limit of 200 in the “Essays” forum.

Edit 4: Guys, this encourages people to elaborate more in their OP. I was able to suggest the “hide” block AND dark mode (separately) in more than 200 characters. In the future, please read through the ENTIRE thread before replying or making an argument.

I'm seeing a lot of things on Suggestions where the title isn't quite clear and the OP isn't either. Or maybe the title is clear but the OP isn't. Or vice versa.

So I propose a character or word limit on the Suggestions forum so that the OP is clear and people understand what the suggestion is.

I'm not one to do this but I'm going to put an FAQ anyway.

Q: Why just the Suggestions forum?

A: A lot of other subforums don't need one, like QaS, some people have everything in the title and just “^^” in the OP. Requests is simple, because shops usually take up multiple posts with a lot of writing.

Q: What would said character / word limit be?

A: For characters, I would say maybe 200. Estimated guess. Word limit would definitely be something like 20 or 15.

Q: What if the suggestion can be explained in less than 200 characters, like “dark mode”?

A: Well, “dark mode” and other simple things can be gone into more detail, such as mockups, which parts of the site they want the suggestion to be implemented to, etc.

Please tell me your thoughts!

I also didn't know what to name this so please think of alternative titles to make the suggestion less confusing

Edit 2: Got mentioned in another suggestion. Yay!

Well, a lot of the time OP’s in suggestions should be long to account for FAQ’s and to ensure people get words out clearly.

Ignore this post since I now realized the OP meant minimum, not maximum.

200 is way too small! I like to type a lot so this character limit should be on a large scale because I saw people type essays, also the TOLORS exists so that's a lot of characters already! What would happen to the older posts with an excess character limit, would they be deleted or left alone? This post already exceeds your proposed limit. The comment limit is 500 for scale so I suggest 2000 characters (that's 333 words if each word was 6 letters) as it allows enough for a long post. The forums are intended for more long-form posts. So, I suggest increasing it to at least 2000 characters.

What if the suggestion can be explained in under 200 characters, such as “dark mode”?

The limit is the minimum.

Well, you can provide examples or explain mockups. Also, “dark mode” isn't really clear.

That's confusing.

Oh okay, you should use “Minimum requirement for characters/words on OPs in the suggestions forum”

That might be confusing as people might think this would apply to all posts, not just ops, before reading post 1.

Some suggestions are simply simple. They don’t need or require much explanation but a few sentences and I feel like this suggestion would lead to users writing a lot of fluff in order to post their suggestion, which is already a huge problem with many forumers.

No support. Not everyone can make mockups, and not everyone has an exact vision for their suggestion.

Also, you can circumvent it…

I can spam text then make it invisible to bypass it. (Don't try to read it)

Hm… I semi/mostly-support

Okay, first
Pros
It requires Scratchers to think about their topic more
It helps prevent spam/meme posts (most are rather short)
If someone doesn't have enough characters, they may go back and recheck their post, preventing spell-check edits or poor wording.

Cons
It can be bypassed, but let's be honest, if someone adds “XDD” at the end to fill some space, we probably won't care. Not to mention, a lot of other things can be bypassed, so that shouldn't immediately disqualify this suggestion.
Some things do not need to have more than 200 characters (I didn't actually check so I could be wrong. Sorry lol) https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/2860/ https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/2793/ https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/41402/
Yeah, these are a lot older and if they were posted today, it wouldn't hurt to add a bit more

But I'm a bit confused. What about the style commands? Will they be counted as text? If so, then more people may blockspam. But if it's not, then someones idea may not pad out enough words

My google translate had a stroke with that and I did too when I saw the result. anyway, if they want to post it then they should elaborate further in the first place regardless of how simple the suggestion is.
