Recognize more holidays

keep in mind im just some dumb mexican-american, so idk completely about about all other cultures

I'm suggesting Scratch recognize more holidays to be more inclusive/fun.

And I don't mean make a studio for every little holiday, but they could put it in the “Scratch News” part of the home page or something like that. Or they could try to feature a project having to do with that holiday, like they did with Ramadan this year.

Here are some suggestions of holidays (some might already be recognized idk):

-Martin Luther King Jr. Day (An important day for African Americans)
-Ramadan (Important to Islamic People)
-Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Important to Mexican people)
-Haunukah (Important for Jewish people)
-Boxing Day (Important for Canadians {i think} )
-Chinese New Year (Important for Chinese People)
-Day of Olympics (Important for world peace)
- V-E Day (Important for European people)
-Indigenous Peoples Day (Important to Indigenous people)
-Kwanzaa (Important to some African people)

and here are some fun extras:

- Hot Dog Day!
-Cat Day! (this one is considerable since scratch's mascot is a cat)
-Pickle Day!

Do you have any recommendations? What do you think?

I think this would make scratch feel more inclusive to people of other cultures whose holidays aren't quite as recognized as holidays like christmas. MLK day is one I would really like to see celebrated more on scratch because he was a really important guy, though all of the ones you listed (besides maybe black friday) would be amazing to be more recognized.

black friday nahhh ☠️

i dont know if scratch is looking to add more holidays, because its an everexpanding list. i also don't think scratch would add holidays that are sad in nature. there are some on this list i do agree with though!

mothers day and fathers day, chinese new year and haunuka are great choices, but i dont know if they'll be added

I feel like they should definitely recognize the other holidays that take place around the christmas season (for example hanukkah) because they're probably some of the most important holidays for the people that celebrate them

why is boxing bay sad in nature? i know it's like a day of gifting to the poor in other countries like Canada, but idk if there's anything bad about it

Most of these are celebrated the same as any other holiday - a featureed project or studio. What do you see holidays like Christmas or Thanksiving getting that these holidays aren't?

For the other holidays, here's why I don't think they aren't already being celebrated:

-Martin Luther King Jr. Day (An important day for African Americans) This is already celebrated, I can recall a blockshade of MLK being featured one year.
-Ramadan (Important to Islamic People) This is already celebrated with a featured project, which is the standard way of celebrating holidays on Scratch
-Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Important to Mexican people) I've done some research on Mexican holidays, and I've never heard of this. Out of curiosity, do you celebrate this holiday? How do you celebrate it?
-Haunukah (Important for Jewish people) Standardly celebrated
-Mother's Day (Important for moms) It's hard to find a project to feature to celebrate this without singling out somebodies mom. Also, Scratch's target audience is not mothers or fathers.
-Father's Day (Important for dads) Same as above
-Boxing Day (Important for Canadians {i think} ) This is the same as Black Friday for Canadians.
-Chinese New Year (Important for Chinese People) Standardly Celebrated
-Valentine's Day (Important to lovebirds) Maybe standardly celebrated? If not, it's probably because Scratch is not the place to talk about romance.
-Day of Olympics (Important for world peace) What is this? All I can find is an article about how it's the day that the Olympics were founded. If this is the case, I don't see the difference between that and any other memorial holiday (like hamburger day or Ice Cream Day) I would be very interested to see a project about this though, and I'm sure the Scratch Team would be inclined to feature it.
- D-Day (Important for European people) No, no. Same as 9/11, violent memory with no particular sentimental significance.
-Indigenous Peoples Day (Important to Indigenous people) Curious as to why this isn't already celebrated, I would be inclined to see this celebrated.
-Kwanzaa (Important to some African people) I believe this is standardly celebrated. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

but not every year

ok
-Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Important to Mexican people) I've done some research on Mexican holidays, and I've never heard of this. Out of curiosity, do you celebrate this holiday? How do you celebrate it?
our lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico, it is a very big celebration in Mexico, and yes, I celebrate this holiday
-Haunukah (Important for Jewish people) Standardly celebrated
ok
-Mother's Day (Important for moms) It's hard to find a project to feature to celebrate this without singling out somebodies mom. Also, Scratch's target audience is not mothers or fathers.

i though it was a holiday to gift to the poor (?)
-Chinese New Year (Important for Chinese People) Standardly Celebrated
ok

ya ig u have a point
-Day of Olympics (Important for world peace) What is this? All I can find is an article about how it's the day that the Olympics were founded. ya cuz like the whole point of the olympics is to promote like peace between countries and basically just have fun rooting for your country ig
- D-Day (Important for European people) No, no. Same as 9/11, violent memory with no particular sentimental significance.
u have a point
-Indigenous Peoples Day (Important to Indigenous people) Curious as to why this isn't already celebrated, I would be inclined to see this celebrated.
ya i agree
-Kwanzaa (Important to some African people) I believe this is standardly celebrated. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
i don't think it is

Maybe featuring a projrct related to the holiday or maybe a text saying the holiday could work.
But they already do feature projects about them like p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p- said.

Hanukkah is not as important as you think. Hanukkah is as recognized as it is in the US and elsewhere because advertisers needed a way to sell to Jews around Christmas season…

Don't forget diwali :P

Actually never mind, I think it gets celebrated and featured on Scratch often so it's probably already recognized

Why don't you start by making projects about these holidays and asking users to propose them to be featured?

I've never heard of the second holiday, maybe if somebody made a project about it the ST would feature it.

Canadians celebrate Boxing Day like black friday. Innitially it was for the poor, but the capitalists caught up to it.

I think I've seen Kwanza projects featured before.

Why D-Day specifically? Another user mentioned that this is like adding a 9/11 day. It's a traumatizing memory that users wouldn't want to remember.

Why not V-E Day instead? Instead of focusing on the Normandy invasion, they can focus on finally achieving peace in Europe. From what I've heard, V-E Day is celebrated basically the same as Veterans Day in America. It won't focus on the ugly side of war, but on the veterans who fight for our freedom. That would be better to include than D-Day, in my opinion.

This one's not really all that important, I'd argue this shouldn't be included.

I'm not sure how this advocates for world peace.

-Rodri wrote:

- D-Day (Important for European people)
… The invasion from World War II? I'm not sure if the Scratch Team would be willing to recognize a day associated with violence and tragedy.
