Chaos Island

Chaos Island

I am going to try to make a game called Chaos Island, unlike any other I know, containing a unique plotline, interesting game mechanics, and consisting of levels which, if we get it right, will get easier and easier as we go.

There is no way I can do this on my own, which is why I'm hiring!

Jobs:
Administration: Fossasor
Coders: TheWolfKA, Squashdog
Artists: Electricdesires, ARandomScratcherXd
Music artists: Fossasor
Storyline: Fossasor, ARandomScratcherXd, Squashdog
Game design/mechanics: Fossasor, Squashdog
Other: TheWolfKA(sound artist), (unlimited slots)
You may sign up for another job, but please clarify which; you may not be accepted.

Task board

Art:

Make costumes for M. Fleet:
Captain M. fleet(the M does not stand for anything, this is to keep it so that the character could be treated as any gender) is the main character of the game. We need a basic 2d costume for M. Fleet, as well as a costume of them from a bird's eye view. More may be necessary later.

Make costumes for ENT1TY:
ENT1TY acts as a tutorial guide, but has significant plot role. They are an abstract, non-humanoid levitating robot of some kind. Please refrain from giving them a face of any sort. Also, a giant robot that will look like it's made out of the same material and be similar to ENT1TY will be the final boss, so make the design flexible. Note that ENT1TY becomes one of the antagonists near the end of the game.

Great, you're hired!

Currently, I'm still getting the basics together, but we desperately need an artist.

There are some characters I need costumes for; could you make those?

Sure, hired!

If you know anyone who is a coder, invite them over; we are in desperate need.

Sounds good, you are hired!

Also I know who you are hehe

The coding part I need to get done is pretty complicated, so please stand by until I post instructions in this thread with details about the game mechanics.

Hired, and I know you!

Glad we have your help.
When I get the chance, I'll post a game mechanics overview so we can start working on that.

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW

Part 1:Levels

The gameplay of Chaos Island happens through the games 70 (!) levels. For now, you don't need to know how the levels will interact with each other, which I will explain later, just what a level is.

The levels are 2d platformers shown from the side, but there is one thing that makes them unique: The level is constantly changing. Platforms on which the player can land will move around, staircases slowly build themselves, and a bar slowly forces the player to finish quick, before the end of the level is closed off. The point is to get to the portal at the end of the level, but with its dynamic landscape, this can be a formidable challenge.

Generally, the changes follow 3 types: Repetitive changes, progressor changes, and countdown changes. Repetitive changes will repeat over and over, such as a platform moving back and forth. Progressor changes will set a pace and help a player progress through a level; for example, a platform that slowly drifts up towards the portal. Countdown changes are ones that usually do not help the player in anyway, but instead make the level harder and harder, eventually making it impossible. This applies time pressure on the player. If a countdown change completes making a level impossible, the player has to restart the level.

Like any platformer, the level will include obstacles. Luckily, the player has some number of lives. If they die, they lose a life and appear on the respawn platform, which may be changing position as well. If they lose all lives, they have to restart the level.

Like in the plan for Rust, the levels are non-scrolling, but changes can happen that move between screens.

Finally, given the large number of levels, it would be good if we could make sprites reusable across levels.
