I understand. But there’s people who think ChatGPT is the first and only AI.

Hmm… do you mean in the sense of there are too many topics to look for? Or, there are new topics getting made every day so it would be hard for the bot to answer all?

It shouldn't be a problem to look for any duplicates or rejected suggestions since ocular does it in seconds (but depends more on your internet speed and stuff) and the list of rejected suggestions isn't THAT big either way and is detailed enough for the bot to understand.

Anyways, this bot could also detect April Fools posts before they get posted. (Non-joke posts that take up space

ST can only make limited changes.

Source defense. (thank you cheddargirl I'm making sure to star this on ocular)
Too high resource requirement, Scratch is nonprofit

Source defense.

EDIT: I just realized I linked all sources I needed to link.
Dang…
Anyways how would they power this thing? This would cause so much less research and more bias and wrong actions, not to mention the prices.
Even then — Limited changes, they might struggle even getting a bot such as this running, plus what about cooldowns? It could turn the servers into literal fried chicken or hungarian pancakes if it didn't have a cooldown, but then it'd be criticized and called “useless” for “being late to a topic”. Reduced cooldown may be a solution but that doesn't fix the problems above.

Scratch Suggestions post duplicate/rejected idea bot

no support, ok lets say joe here
<—- this is joe
joe wants a new looks block that looks like this:
yell [] for (2) secs ::looks //it causes the character to say the text in a pointed bubble
so joe creates the topic
then frank
<—- this is frank
frank also wants
yell [] for (2) secs ::looks //it causes the character to say the text in a pointed bubble
but oh no! that already exists!
so frank creates his topic on
yell [] for (2) secs ::looks //it causes the character to say the text in a pointed bubble
then two seconds later
joes topic has this happen:

scratchbot wrote:

It looks like this topic is a Dupe. the topic is now closed to keep discussion in one place.
yes i used my profile as an example cuz yes
now joe is sad because his topic got closed and he now wasted a few minutes crafting his topic only to be closed in 2 seconds!
it's already annoying to see:
no support. workaround:
...
and: dupe.
and: rejected.

and sometimes your topic gets closed cuz of a link to a topic that got closed a second ago
there are more downsides in a bot, for example:

scratchbot wrote:

It looks like this topic is a Dupe. the topic is now closed to keep discussion in one place.
the link:
*closed*
also this:

TLONScratch wrote:

@ScratchBot: REJECTED - See Rejected Suggestions 8.1, this topic has been closed."
seems a bit harsh with the “REJECTED” part
i think it could be like: Unfortunately, your idea/topic has already been rejected, see TLORS for more info
so that it seems like a notification rather than a harshly written ban.

Hmmmm…. I've got an Idea! What if instead of just instantly closing the topic, it auto-reports to a real human ST member when a topic that looks like it could be a dupe or rejected suggestion? Something like this:

ScratchBot wrote:

Hmm… it looks like this could be a dupe of this. However, I've asked a Scratch Team member to review it.
And just like mcsquaggle said, It doesn't have to be harsh, but it also doesn't have to act like a literal emotionless, unmotivating “bot”, but rather the messages can be written like a human would, yet still confirm it is a bot in something like the bot's signature. The rejected message could be something like this:

I'm sorry, but unfortunately your suggestion of 3D Scratch seems to have been rejected. Here is some more info:

The Official List of Rejected Suggestions wrote:

1.7 3D Scratch

This block, and others, could be used with a z-axis in the project stage to make it easier to create 3D projects. But, Scratch is a language that is designed to be as easy as possible for beginners to learn. Adding 3D features would make the language more difficult for beginners to understand, and a 3D engine is not exactly the purpose of Scratch. This suggestion also includes the possibility for virtual-reality features in Scratch, or “Scratch VR.” A lot of the same difficulties come up.

For those who are interested, it may be worth checking out Beetle Blocks or CreatiCode. They are block-based programming languages similar to the Scratch editor, but with 3D features. There is another similar program to Scratch that contains block programming with 3D features, called Starlogo TNG. You can also try Alice; it is not exactly like Scratch, but has some similar features.

However, I've asked a Scratch Team member to review and confirm.

Great points. The resource thing hasnt been addressed, I was stupid not to think of that. We went over an entire squabble over “Overhaul the Scratch Forums earlier.

I don’t think Scratch has enough people to do this, but it is a great idea. I mean, how many people a week dont read TOLORS and suggest name changes? At least once a week.

This is a very good idea for a bot such as the one being suggested by this topic.
Due to Scratch's limited resources, it would likely be easiest to utilize code like that of the filterbot, with the addition of a “false positive” filter, though.
The bot could check for certain phrases that may present in the topic and if so, then check a list of “false positive phrases” to decide whether or not to make a post and send an automatic report to the ST.

In other words:
“Phrase in topic?” Yes/No
v
No, don't move on and don't send report.
Yes, next step.
v
“Exception phrase in topic?” Yes/No
v
No, make post with relevant information and send report.
Yes, don't make post and don't send report.

This way, if a false positive occurs, the ST member reviewing the report can add exceptions as they occur and remove the unnecessary posts made by the bot.

And good news for god sake, chatGPT is getting sued so they cant do it for scratch haha perfect timing

Since reply of yours (dated July 9th 2023), ChatGPT has:

  • Not been affected by any lawsuits, even after getting several
  • Been getting billions of monthly visits without interruptions
  • Been able to do this for Scratch (with the money of course)

I'm also pretty sure that this suggestion doesn't even need ChatGPT (or any AI) in the first place
