Scratch Forums should be powered by XenForo
DJangoBB is pretty outdated, I think the forums would look and function better with XenForo. Many websites, such as GBATemp and the XDA Forums use it.
https://xenforo.com
https://xenforo.com
PROS:
- Newer, more reliable, more secure software
- The last update was 5 months ago (not like 7 years ago with DJangoBB)
- Looks more modern
- More support for mobile devices
- Customizable theme
CONS:
- Might look too different from the 3.0 style of pages, even if the style is edited
- All posts would have to be transferred (and the forums would have to close while it's being done)
- People on the forums might have their own profiles, which would be useless
- Might attract more Scratchers because of an announcement of the update (or just because it's new), create more spam and activity in the forums
- As far as I'm aware, it's not open-source and it's a paid service

By many websites, yes, but I'm not sure about the Scratch Team. Is XenForo trusted?

You could ask some of the mods of sites that use XenForo about what they think about it

Then doesn't that mean 12000+ topics must be moved to XenForo?

Yes, I don't know how the ST will do that actually. Then doesn't that mean 12000+ topics must be moved to XenForo?
I also thought about profiles in XenForo, maybe the Scratch Team could skip the XenForo profiles or let people have separate profiles for the forums, although that would be kind of useless.
It might also throw people off because the UI looks completely different from the rest of the site.

I disagree, they are two different suggestions, that aren't to be generalized (or stated to be the same thing). Different software's are not the same. Wasn't there a topic for this to replace DjangoBB with Discourse? This might be a duplicate since both suggestions want to migrate to newer software

No support the ST will have to migrate the posts to that DJangoBB is pretty outdated, I think the forums would look and function better with XenForo. Many websites, such as GBATemp and the XDA Forums use it.

They didn’t do it with 1.x. Why now?No support the ST will have to migrate the posts to that DJangoBB is pretty outdated, I think the forums would look and function better with XenForo. Many websites, such as GBATemp and the XDA Forums use it.

I mean this could be great to help with filters since it can find more really bad words and censor it with a * like the last one.
And also with the fact that it has a more better and less outdated look since DjangoBB's site can't really work well anymore.
And if it could help with the look of the discussion board it could give a better look than a unorganized look.
But at the same time all DjangoBB forums (including this one) would have to be moved and with over 700,000 posts it would be really hard to port them all.
So probably a semi support and a support at the same time.
The new posts changed my mind.

1000000% support. The more the outdated, the more the servers running the forums might go down. So it's great that this is suggested. DJangoBB is pretty outdated, I think the forums would look and function better with XenForo. Many websites, such as GBATemp and the XDA Forums use it.

XenForo costs money. I don't the Scratch Team would want to spend money on something that isn't used very much. It also isn't open-source, which is a massive con and goes against Scratch's philosophy.

I believe you only have to pay once to get a license for the service (for self-hosted, $160), and a yearly fee for each default extension (like $60). XenForo costs money. Discourse is FOSS, but most people say that it feels more like forum software for support and it (ironically) isn't very extendable.I believe you only have to pay once to get a license for the service (for self-hosted, $160), and a yearly fee for each default extension. XenForo costs money. I don't the Scratch Team would want to spend money on something that isn't used very much.
