Works okay…
I see what you're getting at but then again there is always the report button…
Someone could get upset and not press it; a younger person might not understand the concept of report; they could have a power cut. So many flaws.
Maybe a link called: “Having Issues (or problems)?”
It would make it more understandable to younger children, it would then specify if it's a bug in the code, someone being rude or other. Then they could choose being rude/mean/inappropriate and it would show them where to report.

Then have it just problems.
There is no way an 8+ year old can't understand that, and they would likely press it.

I still think a filter is better

How would it know if it's OK?It's all fine and dandy making a filter that can get everything, but that causes false-positives.
It could be made so it puts it back if it it OK.

*Sigh. A new invention called a database…

No support, I'm still on Scratch for the reason that it is moderated, people don't get to swear at others through cloud data, and that there are actual people moderating instead of heartless filters/robots.
I may disagree with the mods sometimes, but they're still about 40x better than robots.

And who will keep this database up to date with new workarounds? How would it know if it's OK?It's all fine and dandy making a filter that can get everything, but that causes false-positives.

I don't think the Scratch Team has the funding to hire more people just to manage a list of words.
I honestly think that the current moderation system is good enough. If something gets past the filter, you report it. Besides, cloud data only supports numbers, which isn't offensive like text.

No support. That kind of language shouldn't be allowed at all, even if it's censored.

Yeah good point, though it may be VERY hard to program, but it would be efficient, so I guess for now we could stick to the report button….th15M4d3 4 f1lter f0r

Also, other languages would set off the filter in some circumstances.
It's just too much to handle.

Yep.

(All examples say “What an idiot.”)
An English filter wouldn't detect these. How would you get around these with the many languages and the many possible insults and the many ways to get around a filter?

Case closed. As of now, no on ehas made a perfect filter, and I don't want the ST to waste their time trying when they could be doing much more important things for Scratch. Also, other languages would set off the filter in some circumstances.

So, it looks like we will have to rely on old-style reporting and moderation for now, with a filter that catches only the most obvious cases. The users have to do the rest.

It's possible, and the last bit was opinion. And you don't have the authority to tell people a discussion is over.

And this is made impossible by the stupid open-source rules.
