This is similar to GitHub's Stale bot for issues and PRs.

Implementing this would reduce necroposting since it would be obvious to people that a topic has been abandoned.
This wouldn't apply to categories where people ask technical questions, but rather suggestions or general questions

For people that aren't familiar with the Stale bot:
1. Stale issues can still be made active, it's just a marker to help hint at abandoned topics
2. The ideal delay when marking issues stale is usually after a few months, not a few days.

Let me know what you people think

Remember, there are some forums where necroposting doesn't exist. This would be useful in QaS, HwS, and BaG, but that's about it. It would be very annoying to have a good suggestion, try to bump it, ad saying, sorry, this topic is stale.

2. I didn't define when a topic is marked stale, but the ideal amount would usually be after a few months

I like this suggestion (especially for the forums such as help with script), as people sometimes tend to try and answer questions from 8 years ago, or go say “what” on old topics.

I think this suggestion is really good, I think your proposed system would function better if it had a “are you necroposting?” red text box with the definition of necroposting, if the user clicks “I am not necroposting” then it allows them to post whatever they wanted to post. Its also worth to note that this is an easier way of implementing a similer system of what you proposed.

Yeah, that would be a nice addition, but my suggestion and your suggestion have slightly different purposes. They could be combined.

Support..? It's nice to have a notice about dead topics, but I'm not really sure how this would help. I feel like it would be solely a cosmetic feature, and you can still post on a stale topic like anything else, so there would be practically no change.

I'm not trying to defend my suggestion, but there wouldn't really be a better way to stop necroposts otherwise. You can't force people to not post on a stale topic, that would be terrible for obvious reasons. Most people don't even necropost on purpose, it's mostly on accident.

a system like this to go with the marker would function well since it would help people realize what they're posting on.

maybe because people just don't know what to add to the discussion but this happens most of the time so your not alone
