you can report it and ask what the scratch team thinks, but to be honest I distinctly remember them telling me why this would be a bad idea, but I don't remember the source-

a scratch team member might have once wrote:

people complain enough about the comment filter, it would only get worse in projects
anyway, I repeat my earlier point. It should be an extremely basic filter that doesn't check for workarounds.

The title is pretty self-explained, but here we go:

Once on my project SS4.0, while it was front-paged, it actually got a.very inappropriate remix. (it has been taken down). It had words such as (ugh i feel bad typing them-.im gonna censor them) “h3ll”, “d3mons”, and “k!ll”, among other things, all over it, covering the actual project.

This, was/is clearly becuase there is no filter in project costumes…

I think that this feature should be added
If there’s anything inappropriate, instead you should report it. It’ll be removed if the Scratch Team if they think it deserves to be removed. I just think that a filter would get /really/ annoying.
Plus, I think hell, demon, and kill are all words that are okay if the context makes it acceptable. (Correct me if I’m wrong)

Wouldn't this require a truly intelligent AI?

- Bitmap stores as a raster so a text object cannot be picked out
- When using a vector text object, the contents of the <text> or whatever it's called element in the SVG data can be used but with the brush tool it's not as simple

is it me being stupid or wasn't it only supposed to check text that was written by the “text” option

I don't see how “demon” is a bad word, nor “kill.” And I think “hell” is also a word allowed on Scratch, as it isn't defined as a curse word.

I'm guessing it just takes the text while the user is typing because that's how users can use stuff like backspace in the editor.

Another thing is that this would cause severe lag. You know how there is a one second delay when posting comments? I think that most of that is just the filter checking your comment, since when the filter catches it, it takes around the same amount of time so posting it can't take that much time. Imagine that time every time you make an edit to a text element in the costume editor. That would slow things down significantly. It wouldn't just slow things down in the editor, it would also slow things down in the server too because it has to handle all of those requests.

its just the vector text for now

they are bad if they are pasted randomly over a project, with no meaning

Then people can just switch over to bitmap and it defeats the whole purpose.

Then it would need to save all of the text from the project, which would take up lots of storage space. It would also require the filter to handle all of the text at once, which would cause extreme lag for the coder and the servers anyway.

Maybe kill and hell, but “demon” isn't a curse word.

Anyway, how would it detect if it's just pasted all over. I see a simple workaround: Reporting the project if you feel it contains bad language.

But it would also ramp up server cost, costing real money. One scratch is better than no scratch.

No! The Scratch filter is bad enough as it is, why would we want to be blocked for 30 minutes for not even saying anything bad? You might say that they can just use a better bot for filtering, but why would that happen if not even the comment one works well?
No support.

You would not be muted, just notified to remove bad words

It would still be annoying because it would notify you all the time
Also, would words only be checked if you are online/connected to the Scratch servers to check the blacklist?
If it would be an offline thing, it would be annoying because someone could be in the offline editor and get spammed with messages about inappropriate things, they might not even share the project is what i mean idk
But still no support
