Add new, less childish sprites/backdrops to the Scratch library

Read Before Posting

I think that adding new sprites and backdrops for an older (tween and teen) audience to the Scratch library, but not removing the current sprites and backdrops - that would make Scratch less appealing to Scratchers towards the younger end of Scratch's recommended age range (8 to 16 year olds) - would make Scratch more appealing to tweens and teens.

I am NOT suggesting for violent, disturbing or sexualized sprites (e.g. the Scratch Cat with a broken leg) to be added to the Scratch library.

[removed - none of my pre-2024 posts were really constructive, and this was no exception]

Support, mostly because Scratch is meant to be for everyone, and a few new less-childish sprites could appeal to older Scratchers – what exactly were you thinking? More realistic sprites? Less cartoon-y ones?

Support!
I'm not a baby, and I think it makes sense that someone finally said something about it.

What is considered “childish” and “not childish” according to you?

I think possibly that, or maybe sprites that go under childish themes. Bright colors, absence of pain or anguish, or a lack of complicated topics could all be considered childish to some degree.

So are you saying that we should add sprites that are dull and unappealing or hurt?

Possibly. What if scratch cat breaks his leg?

I'm sure that would count as some form of violence. How is it supposed to be designed without being too childish or graphic?

Does it mean we are going to have a sprite of Vladimir Putin trapped in a dark cell and covered in blood? If so, then I support!
(this is a joke of course)

Ok, back to the topic, I think we should make the sprites more realistic and less cartoony, this doesn't mean having real photos of people (that would be low-quality), but instead, the drawings should be improved to look more realistic. But I'd strongly advice against what @Gato_Amigo111 said.

I'm pretty sure he meant something like this. It's not child unfriendly or NSFW, but it's definitely not childish.

More sprites yes, but I don't expect the ST to add bloody/violent sprites or something awful

However, it does not fit his criteria. The plane is still brightly colored with orange and yellow.

Can you give an example of a “less childish” sprite?

OP never said there can't be bright colours, and bright colour doesn't automatically mean “childish”, plus when added the plane should just be a blank sprite (I just grabbed the plane from one of my projects).

i love mature sprites:

i’m not too convinced that the current sprite library is making scratch less appealing to older coders

No support. Scratch already provides lots of options for users to draw their own sprites, and scratch encourages creativity. The beginning sprites are helpful for a user's first couple of projects to get them introduced to scratch, but after that the costume library likely shouldn't be needed.

EDIT: Plus, can you please elaborate on what kind of sprites you would like to see appear into the library?
