Monthly Survey
I’m proposing that Scratch should have a monthly survey for all scratchers to fill out about how they are feeling about Scratch’s new updates and current running. The survey would be at the start of every month, and users would have 2 weeks to respond and could only respond once. The survey would be on Scratch, not another website, and there wouldn’t be any written responses, as that would be a lot of reading for them to look over.
The survey would be sent through users’ messages, and would still show up until they filled it out. The survey is completely optional, and there would be an option to turn it off if users found it annoying.
This would be beneficial for Scratch because we would be giving the ST feedback on the website and how the community is liking the different features. Adds to this suggestion would be much appreciated!
Nice mock-up by @historical_supa!

This would be really helpful for the feedback! I support this! This will help the ST know how the community feels update the recent updates that they have made.
How would it get sent though? Through messages? Like the New Scratcher to Scratcher invitation?

I don’t know, actually. It would probably either be through messages or just on the front page of scratch (maybe in the scratch news section). This would be really helpful for the feedback! Yeah but the Scratch News Section is really small
And that is for news, not really feedback
Well except the new studio for the 15th year of Scratch
But I think messages would be better.
Not many people check the Scratch News as much as their messages.
Why is my wording off today?
edit: but then again, it is on the front page, so more people are bound to click it

Cool! I would provide a mockup, but my school blocked ctrl+u and ctrl+i
I will try my best to provide a mockup. Or somebody else can do it

I think this would be a great idea! However, the st hardly ever regards what scratchers think, and would most likely not implement it.

The problem is, whilst the Scratch Team will hopefully be able to indicate what the majority of the community think on a new update/how Scratch is being run, it does not tell the Scratch Team what they are doing right or what they need to improve. The improvement bit is really needed - the Scratch Team need to know why users do not like an update/how scratch is run.
It would be a lot more helpful if they shared their concerns about an update/how scratch is being run on the forums as written responses are way more constructive and the Scratch Team will still acknowledge that people dislike the update (especially if people are also disliking it on the main site). As for if they like an update/how scratch is being run, then no one complaining is an indicator that it is good.

I'd say that the forums fulfil that action already. Polls don't allow people to suggest improvements, just views on such - whereas forums allow people to expand. I think it's important that Suggestions presents such opportunities, and as it's open 24/7 it's not limited.

I don't see the point of this because Scratch hardly ever updates. The frequency of the updating is definitely more than 1 update per month, so these surveys should be rare.
Also, I don't think these surveys would even sway the ST's opinions anyway. When the ST restricted FNAF projects in 2015, many people were against it, but we still have those keywords NFE'd today. When the website updated to 3.0, many users were unsatisfied with the change and left scratch, but we are still in 3.0 today. When the ST changed manager privileges in studios, people made suggestions and petitions to #BringBackManagerRights, but the manager situation is still the same as always.
So, this suggestion would give feedback to the ST, but I doubt they'd act on it. But it would be nice to see how the community has reacted to the update as a whole.

(#11)However, it would not be wrong to assume that the forum community have very similar views to the rest of the Scratch community. Also, it is noticeable if a change is not received well on the site, regardless of how it is seen on the forums. The Scratch Team still would have realised that people were upset with the studio update by comments, not just forum posts. The people posting on the forums don’t represent all of Scratch, only a small amount of it. Furthermore, the constructiveness part is still key. A poll does not tell the Scratch Team how to improve, the forums do. Also keep in mind that for the studio update, the forums were flooded by “main site” users suggesting on the forums. So in updates where the Scratch Team makes an announcement, the forums are recognised.

Not true. They regard the reasoning behind the opinions, but not the opinions themselves. Suggestions, for instance, exists so that Scratchers can give feedback on how to improve the site. If they didn’t care, why do they even have this as a forum? They just need time to think.

Agreed, I was going to mention that. I’d prefer written responses, and if they’re all just multiple-choice questions without some way to give detailed feedback, I’m not okay with this suggestion nearly as much.

Not unless the survey asks, “What improvements do you think would benefit Scratch, and why?” or something along those lines. True, they could say it in Suggestions, but I feel as though this survey would get better feedback from users who don’t use the forums.
However, it would not be wrong to assume that the forum community have very similar views to the rest of the Scratch community. I’d be against this idea if the whole point was for the Scratch Team to hear how users like something. Now, if there was a written response that you could elaborate on to explain why users like something, not how, I think it might work.
(Responding to @VioletCalico) I also think there should be a way to “turn off” survey messages if users think the survey is annoying. It should be optional. Users should not feel forced to do it in any way.

This is a mockup. Anyway, support since Scratch could be improved with users telling the ST how they want Scratch to be.
