Stop your projects from getting front paged...?!

Okay, okay, I know what you're thinking. You've read the title, and you're wondering, “Who in the world wouldn't want their project on the front page?!” But hear me out. This suggestion might actually give you more chance of getting featured. might solve some real issues.

Basically, what I'm suggesting is that when you share a project, in the My Stuff menu, there would be a label and checkbox on each of your projects. This label would be ‘Block this project from getting on the front page’ or something similar. This could either be in the My Stuff menu or in Account Settings (if it was in Account Settings, it would stop all of your projects from getting front paged, credit to Thiibo for this idea). If you check the box, that project will not be able to get on any of the front page bars except the SDS, and it won't be able to get on the Explore page either.

Why? Well, to put it simply, some famous users are sick of getting famous. I've seen in the descriptions of multiple featured/trending projects (can't name them) that the users are really annoyed that their project is popular because of all the annoying messages. If they wanted to, they could stop their projects from getting featured, giving less noticed Scratchers more of a chance to get up there!

And the fear of popularity is real. Before you say that being famous is unavoidable and is a price that comes with sharing projects on Scratch, please read this:
There are two main types of popularity on Scratch: the ‘trendy cool popular i-want-to-play-because-everyone-else-is-playing’ type, and the long-lasting ‘I genuinely like this Scratcher’s stuff' type. The first type is often generated through the front page and Explore page, and almost always comes with hate. I have seen many users who post that being on trending stresses them, and if you look through this discussion, you will see many people who have posted here that hate fame and have made secret accounts to get away from it, know people who left because of fame, and people who had to make entirely new accounts because of all the haters that bullied them, accrued through…fame. Not real fame - the first type of fame, and the jealousy, trolling and hate that comes with it. Popular Scratchers who stop their projects from getting front paged will still have a genuine popularity with their followers; they don't have to hide away and deprive Scratch of their projects. Why can't we allow Scratchers to get rid of the insincere and potentially rude popularity they could gain from being front paged?

Fame is like an office job. Soon enough, you would want a vacation. Clicking the button would kind of be like getting a vacation (except it's free, hehe).

For everyone saying “just make a new account”…it's harder than you think. Do you think people want to leave all their follows behind? All the hard work they did, all the projects… they go down the drain because they can't deal with the fame. They have to create a new account, with nobody knowing who they were, and nobody able to know because then the massive hoards of haters will come back.

This new suggestion will prevent that. Scratch is a website where people can do so many things. If someone wants to become famous rightfully, nobody restricts them. The same thing should happen if someone does not want to become famous rightfully.

Just one thing to note: can anyone think of a way to fix this problem?

I personally, as I believe the other person is as well, is concerned that scratchers who get front paged a lot or even maybe more than once will be harassed into turning it off by kids who say “Youve had a project frontpaged before, stop hogging all the fame! You should turn your thing off so people like me can have a turn!?!” . this would be entirely unfair to people, its perfectly normal to want a project frontpaged, even more than once. This would also just get a lot of the current famous scratchers hate for what they've been doing all this time.

Thanks for reading all the way down here. I hope you like this suggestion, however weird it is!

I guess support? It's a bit unnecessary, but there isn't really any reason to not add this feature other than that not many people would use it.

This would probably be good for
1. People who are sick of being famous
2. People who don't want attention

Support, I think we should also make it so people must get your consent before purposing your project to be featured, currently, your project can only be purposed once, so your enemies could ruin your chance on purpose by purposing your project and a very good project at the same time

Support, there are a lot of Scratchers who aren't famous, but make really awesome projects (which is so unfair, except for if the projects are rated NFE).

I have the feeling that everyone on the front page would get comments along the lines of “you're egoistic” because they enabled this.

I don't think that would be the case, if a user makes quality projects then people would be glad to have a link directly to their content when they head to the front page.

Why not? Naming projects is allowed as long as you aren't naming and shaming

Possibly, but I feel like it would be very rare for people to not enable this, so it wouldn't be much ground for bullying. Anyway, they can just report the comments.

I feel like this suggestion is similar to ‘unlisted projects’, which is rejected for the following reasons below:

Za-Chary wrote:

4.1 Disable “See Inside” or restrict sharing
Restricting sharing so that only certain users can view the project is also not going to be implemented. It is important for projects to be publicly shared for everyone to see so people can report them if they are inappropriate. Only allowing certain users to view projects could increase the chances of inappropriate projects being shared on the website. ”Unlisted projects," similar to a YouTube feature, will also not be implemented for the same reason. It could also be used for private messaging; for more information, see #7.1 on this list.

NO! The OP clearly states:

No support, because barely anyone would click the checkbox on any of their projects to not be front paged.

Even if this was added as a thing, lots of people would still never get on trending.

It would increase their chances of getting onto trending, as well as solve a different problem while at it. Two birds with one stone.
