Remove big support lists / count them as spam.

Sometimes suggestions have lists of people who support and dont support. But I think it adds unnecessary length to the post and clutters it up. Im all for saying how many supporters there are, or what percent of support a suggestion has, but lists of everyone who supports and sometimes even their message seems unnecessary to me, especially if it were on bigger posts with a large amount of supporters. It clutters it up, and doesnt contribute to the topic at all! And, even if its just a little bit, it still takes up unnecessary storage space.
And by the way, this suggestion is not for removing Supporting / No Supporting, but to remove long, unnecessary lists of them.

Support. Why are they needed in the first place?

Support. Why is it important to show who supports and who doesn't? The ST only really need to know how many there are.

Support. Would be funny if you put a support list on this post, but that defeats the point.

I don't need to know that xXWomenGetterXx said “support”

Anyway, this makes sense and I support this (don’t put me on a list for this)

After all, nobody needs to know who’s got what opinion.

support, support lists will cause peer pressure and the fear of having your own opinion (like if a suggestion you strongly disagree with has the supporters outnumbering the unsupporters 9999999 to 0)

Support. These lists take up a lot of space and are unnecessary. Suggestions aren't about the supporters, and they don't play any factor in whether the ST implements a suggestion. The ST doesn't care who supports a suggestion, but they care about a users' reasoning for their standpoint, which they will not recieve from these lists. Plus, this causes users to feel uncomfortable about being able to share their opinions, because if they don't support the suggestion, their username will be put on the negative side of a list. Nobody wants that.

They shouldn’t just be discouraged- greater action needs to be taken. They should be removed by moderators.

What are the benefits? None. What are the cons? Well, there’s a lot.
  • Encourages the awful support convention; making a list for supports may make new forumers think that supporting a suggestion is special as you get put onto a list (source: I was once a new forumer) and that encourages users to use the support convention from an early forum experience, which most of the time makes posts less constructive
  • Gets in the way of the description
  • Useless to moderators as they don’t care, making the premise pointless
  • Makes you look arrogant. “Oh, look at me with my 2 supports! Surprised TFH haven’t sent an invitation to me yet!”

I believe it. I think/hope I speak for all forum moderators when I say that they're already “discouraged.” The Scratch Team has made it clear that the number of supporters for a suggestion does not influence the possibility of it getting implemented.

However, “discouraged” is not the same as “action should be taken against it,” which is what I really think you (7salad3salad) are suggesting. It might be worth updating the OP to reflect that.

I agree they are already discouraged and also agree that “discourage” does not mean taking action - and as my post said, that is in my opinion what needs to be done now. Discourage does not completely stop this bad habit, so if it is so bad it warrants this suggestion, we might as well ban it, shall we?

Wait, your tone is quite hard to understand. Do you agree with me (that action needs to be taken) or disagree?

Support. Those lists are not necessary, and they ‘shame’ people who do not support their topic.

Well no-support lists are arguably already against the Community Guidelines.
Regular support lists are unnecessary, but so is taking any action against them. They're not gonna kill you, or brick your computer.

I would change the suggestion to be “Moderators should treat support lists as Spam”. A Scratch Team member once told me that the moderators considered spam to be “ We consider spam any content that is not-contributing to the topic and is annoying to others.”

Mostly support - I agree that they are unnecessary, but what exactly would be considered a “big” list?

Support. They could make two buttons. (like on Youtube) Like and dislike.

That's Rejected

Za-Chary wrote:

4.2 Dislike button or a project rating system
Generally, a user's first project is something rather simple, such as a test project, a remix, or a project made using a tutorial. Because this project is simple, other users may give the project low ratings since it is not advanced. With low enough ratings, the creator might be discouraged enough to stop using Scratch. Moreover, constructive feedback is encouraged on Scratch. A dislike button may show the creator how many people disliked their project, but it tells nothing about what the creator could do better. If you do not like a project, you could choose not to love it, or you could leave a respectful and constructive comment telling the user how to improve, in addition to saying what you like about the project.

With that, a dislike button is rejected for anything, including projects and comments. However, a like button for comments is NOT rejected. You can discuss it on this topic.

9.6 Polls in the forums
Some Scratchers have suggested optional polls that could be implemented into forum threads so users can vote on a particular suggestion, state that they experience the same glitch as someone else, or for other reasons. However, the Scratch Team is less interested in polling results and more interested in constructive posts on the forums. Although polls could theoretically reduce the number of unconstructive posts, they likely would not help Scratchers think constructively and write constructive posts. This suggestion includes polls that Scratchers can create themselves, as well as pre-made polls.

Support. These are sometimes annoying, and usually take away from the point. I'm not sure if just “discouraging it” would help too much, newer scratchers may still do it not knowing they shouldn't, but other than mods removing the post, there's nothing too much we can do about that.

Actually, the mods can edit a post and remove spam inside of it. So, if they all agreed that a long list of names was basically just spam (annoying and not contributing) then they could just replace it with something like [removed. A long list of userids does not contribute to the discussion and others may find it annoying.]
