Increase the reply limit.
Can you guys stop complaining about it, it's not even 100% yet?!
No support, 25 is enough and give me one example when you would need more? Getting longer than 25 is too much anyway.
Alright, here's the problem.
Chat studios :
What if you're having a simple chat that last over the course of days, discussing random topics. Every time we reach the limit, we have to start a new chain? This doesn't stop the loading lag at all.\
Roleplay studios :
I've seen studios go on for over 100 replies. These are called "Multiplayer Rps" normally, as most often they have around 4-5 or more roleplays. 25/5? 5 comments per person. How do you expect people to complete a huge multiplayer rp with five comments each?
This new update is unwanted and is not needed.

The previous comment system didn't load comments all at once (in fact it only fetched comments later in a chain when needed, and would only show maybe about the first 20 comments in a comment chain), but when dealing with studio comment refreshers who are looking to get to the end of a very large studio comment chain is when things start to get problematic. 10 seconds fetch 100 comments and new comments gets posted, 10 seconds after that refresh and fetch 101 comments and new comment gets posted, it's a pretty compounding problem. And how does a reply limit help with this? There are the same amount of page refreshes per reply on studios still, even with a reply limit – The reply limit just means that the comments in those studios will be far more unorganized, not decreasing lag in any way. Adding to this, if lag really wanted to be decreased so much they would create a bit of a larger project for fetching replies efficiently and only when needed, not loading them all at once. …Additional lag is caused when studios are frequently refreshed every few seconds…
The older comment models had a limit of around 3-10, and studios had existed and flourished before without comments, but that it would be too extreme to resolve the issues brought on by studio comments.Nobody's asking for it. What are you implying with this? …I doubt you want to go back to the good ol' 1.x days when studio comments didn't exist, or go back to older comment limit models where the reply limit was under 20!…

Wouldn't a better progressive caching method, or replies being sent with their base comments, be an alternate solution to a reply limit though? And anyways, there's not a real difference between gathering replies and gathering base comments except in the SQL query being perhaps more CPU-intensive, although that could be fixed with progressive caching… I think you guys severely overestimate about how much stress that servers that rely on donation money can handle.
50 is actually already too much. Additional lag is caused when studios are frequently refreshed every few seconds (notably the roleplay and chat studios, or popular studios where comments are checked frequently by multiple people). I doubt you want to go back to the good ol' 1.x days when studio comments didn't exist, or go back to older comment limit models where the reply limit was under 20!
Maybe we can revisit the limit sometime in the future, depending on how much support we get, but with the way website activity is now now, we're unfortunately kinda stuck with 25 as the happy medium.
And since 20 replies are sent per request, wouldn't it make sense to bump it up to 40 so there are two full requests? Otherwise, it just causes “request spam” with requests that have larger headers than contents due to a small number of replies for that request.

1.x had 20 comment limit? Shocking :OI think you guys severely overestimate about how much stress that servers that rely on donation money can handle. It was actually to help prevent lag, so I think 50-100 should still prevent sufficient lag and have more functionality.I feel like 100's good, but kinda small. I've seen roleplays with thousands of replies. (I know the limit was implemented so these long roleplays don't happen, but maybe the limit could be bigger than 100.) As part of an update to scratch, the ST have decided to implement a reply limit. Part of this is to take action against chat studios. Right now, the limit is 25 replies. This is too little. I think it should be up to 50-100 due to roleplays and constructive discussions on studios. This should be a good compromise between the scratchers and the ST.
Edit: I'd rather be safe and not have people discussing it's removal. I'd rather not risk increasing the chance of this topic getting closed.

Same. I think that new scratchers should have a limit - so haters cant make heaps of profiles and spam on studios… Support. I of course would rather no limit, but raising the limit does seem more realistic and if it is put into effect it would be a good compromise.

Not really, no. (The latter suggestion of sending base comment is also potentially even more lag-nasty).Wouldn't a better progressive caching method, or replies being sent with their base comments, be an alternate solution to a reply limit though? then youd complain about poor site performance, lag and loading times. They shouldn't implement this, I like roleplaying, so support, as I won't be able to roleplay otherwise.
Edit: There shouldn't be any limit.

Rp in studios: Rp in forum are so bad
After update
RPs in studios die in disgust
Forum RPs:
{Insert leonardo dicaprio's meme here}
Ok this meme is not mine it's from a friend and I just improved it. Also ST, you could do some research with scratchers to find out what they want and what they don't.

but… just cause the reply limit has changed doesn't mean that there'll be less refreshing? As the same comments would be made, just in separate chains? In fact, it might even increase because people would be checking if their friend had created a new chain to continue their conversation/roleplay?

Full support - even if a reply limit isn't removed completley, at least we sould still have a lot more leeway.

We do expect that the frequency of refreshing issue won’t change. But having the limit reduces the stress that is caused by refreshing. Refreshing to see if someone replied to a chain that is 25 comments long is less taxing than refreshing to get to the bottom of a chain that is 50+ long.50 is actually already too much. Yeah but if there are a ton of different comment chains loading at once what would it change? We do expect that the frequency of refreshing issue won’t change.
