Redesign for the Scratch homepage

Hey, After looking around the wiki a bit, i noticed that the 2.0 home page looks strikingly similar to the current one. here's an image:

I thought that it would be cool if we gave the homepage an update, to make it fit in to the 3.0 theme. Here's my redesign(sorry it's a bit pixelated):

Noticing that a lot of you don't like the bright blue on the headers, i made a second option with a less bright blue:

And, for those of you who don't really like the idea of a blue header, here's one that has a transparent heading( idea by @MoreThanEnuff):

Any suggestions on how to improve this? Let me know your views on this. Thanks!

I, for one rather like it. The colors look very user-friendly (and while I normally like stuff being not user friendly, this is a kids site so its better) and 3.0. However, the font seems different from the 2.0 version and I think the font is more playful and interesting from the current page. Also, a gradient could be added on the blue bars for the What's happening, Scratch News, Featured projects, Featured Studios, and all of the rows. (this is all just my opinion)
Great suggestion, and I support!

I personally don't like the use of all that bright blue, it just makes the page look far too busy and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at.

It's strange, but not unpleasantly so. I quite like it.

But that’s the scratch 3.0 colour. This makes it look like 3.0 and is the colourful design the homepage needs. Grey is 2.0

I like the design, but the color is too bright. I prefer the current homepage design

No, that's not at all true. Blue is not the “3.0 color”, it was used since 2007. Making everything blue makes everything look like it's trying to grab your attention, instead of the most important parts. The homepage is fine and doesn't need bright colors everywhere.

I agree with fdreerf. I appreciate links being the brighter blue, but it gets out of hand when it's everywhere.

Huh, i didn't edit the font, so i guess the blame(or credit) can go to the bad image quality.

It seems the a lot of you say that the color is too bright. Any ideas on what it could be changed to, other than grey?

Maybe a really pale blue so it's closer to the background color than the header color.

I like it, and don’t have any problem with it. It fits with the Scratch 3.0 style. However, I have one problem with it. I do not like how the project and studio thumbnails look on the front page. I would like it better if the edges were sharp and are not rounded like they are today. Overall, it is cool, but I do not like how the project and studio thumbnails are styled.
Oh, this was actually originally meant to be a light mode for my FPCA's vision of scratch, while the edges wouldn't be sharp, they would be less curved.

Wow this is the first ever colour change I actually like! Support, it fits in with the Scratch www theme, and is a nice way to distinguish from the 2.0 page.

Hmm, Interesting idea. I'd disagree with that(of course this is just my opinion), as i find that a lot of 3.0 pages have flat colors, rather than gradients.

If we don't want the headers to be distracting, we could go for an alternative option and simply make the widgets transparent.

Redesign for the Scratch homepage

The homepage feels just fine to me imo. As fdreerf said, I think so much bright blue makes it look like everything is a header or something, since I associate that color with the Scratch header. No other page uses this theme (I think) of bright blue everywhere instead of being reserved for the header, except for maybe the forums, but that darker blue isn't as attention grabbing.
