A more efficient method of combatting f4f

Denied three times, sure.
Three times is a bit much; there’s a reason why you can’t invite someone more than once to a studio and why you only get notified once for someone following you, etc. People will spam the button sending you 2 more requests after you’ve already rejected it. Instead, the F4F button on their profile should allow you to accept the invite.

Alright, once then. And great add on! I’ll add that later.

It is an option.
Ok but what do you think of instead of making it a separate button, make it part of the follow button (say by right clicking) so that people aren't tempted to click the f4f button or start f4f-ing.

Ooh, hiding it as an Easter egg would be better…. I’ll ponder about this addition.

Oh my, I was going to add that, and forgot. Thanks for reminding me, though! The term itself should be censored if the user doesn’t do f4f; however, it would only apply to the user’s projects, owned studios, and profiles.
Don't you just absolutely love it when you find a really interesting thread that you're really excited to see people reply to and then immediately forget to follow aforementioned thread?

Ah, awesome! *insert smiley face here*
I wouldn't think it would apply to owned studios, though; someone might (although the chances of this are not very good) want to make a studio where people could ask for F4F (or maybe it would be even more likely, to decrease F4F spam on profiles). Certainly projects and profiles, though.

Pros: Reduces comments
Cons: Forces receiver to follower sometimes.
Receive extra messages (most scratchers don't want that).
ALSO, THIS WOULD BE THE WORST FOR @griffpatch!

yes, you learn so much from following someone so they follow you

actually it is a problem, it's a very common form of spam when it's in places it's not permitted
F4F is educational as social actions encourage kids to learn. Ask Za-Chary.

It isn’t a problem at all. It gives people confidence and makes people happy. If you don’t want to do f4f, just decline, ignore, or delete the request.

Bro, read the bottom of the paragraph.

I support this because it is an option. This would definitely shift the F4F spam from the comments, for example the ones you see on famous Scratchers profiles. I do like that this is an option, so that it is clear that those who don't do F4F don't want to do it.

Truth.

There would be an option to toggle it; griffpatch has plenty of messages and they won't really affect anything, and I have heard lots of people want messages to know they have ppl who are interested in them- I saw someone complain that others don't open their messages for weeks just to feel better.

no they don't, his comments are closed

but it is if it's being spammed in places it's not allowed, it's fine when it's in f4f studios and stuff like that

Did you not read??!! There's no force, people can decline it, only one message per user, and it could be turned off.

Sorry, I'm not using your list of pros and cons for the time being.

This seems like a good suggestion, however, maybe F4F could be toggleable?
When you go to your profile, you can click on the F4F button to toggle it. If you don't want F4F, just click the button!

If F4F is turned off, then the phrases “F4F” and “follow for follow” cannot be sent on the user's profile, projects, owned studios, and any comments that the user has made.

F4F isn’t a problem as it gives people confidence and that is educational.
How is it educational?
Also, F4F is a problem for the people that don't like it (such as me).

Ya see, what you said makes slightly more sense.

So, when you make your Scratch account (and I'm basing this off of what I would do), you can go to Account Settings, and click the checkmark in the F4F box. Now, nobody can F4F you! If this box is off, then the phrases “F4F”, “f4f”, and “follow for follow” will be censored on that user's profile, projects, and replies to any comments that the user has made.

Hmmmmm…..interesting idea. This might cause a lot of drama though, like people spamming “Why no f4f w/ me?” on profile .

Can you think of a way to combat that?

That can happen with our current system as well.
And I don't think people are that dumb/really want followers to spam someone about F4F-ing. Plus, we can just report the comments and close comments.
