Encourage creativity by making "Paint" the first option for costume/sprite/backdrop dropdown
@Alzter made a point about how it seems like the ST is trying to discourage creativity in the editor, as stated here. https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/261891177/.
I'd also like to note “Choose a Costume/Choose a Sprite/Choose a Backdrop” appears twice in the dropdowns, for whatever reason. My solution is to make “paint” the first option. This makes stuff easier for people used to making their own stuff, and encourages creativity for new users.

Edit: The first option in the dropdown is customizable.

Honestly…that's not a big feature to add…and well, it's just..useless. There are many new Scratchers that don't know how to draw very well, and I think that might well as discourage them. (honestly, drawing with the mousepad? I can manage it, but new Scratchers? eh…)
I don't think it'll make much difference, like i mentioned, it's just a feature that barely makes a difference…

The thing that really matters here is not how the user feels about their drawing. It's about their proudness, knowing that this is something THEY created. True true, but what if they don't want to draw?

This annoys me a lot, I used(and sometimes still do) go down and click on the cat, when I wanted to draw an original costume, this would make my day easier.

I imagine the ST have expected users, particularly beginner users to want to use premade costumes and modify those over starting from a blank canvas, as they already have something that they can try out the costume editor on. I would like to see this introduced though because in today's world, almost everyone has used some form of paint editor, whether on MS Paint or one of those iPad drawing apps because that'd be something that I imagine schools would want to encourage. So I don't think it's a matter of new users “being intimidated by the costume editor”
As an additional point, I would like to see the default sprite option change to the paint function as well.

I agree that using default assets shouldn't exactly be encouraged as the default option. Also, the paintbrush icon gives a much clearer idea of what the button does than the current one. If someone wants to use the default assets then they can just select it on the dropdown. This would improve the editor a lot.

On the fence now. Yes, creativity is important, but what if one tired to make a trend with a modified costume of a sprite (take itch chat for example)? That’s also creativity.

I really do hope your post is ironic. Please tell me that the Itch Cat part is a joke. On the fence now. Yes, creativity is important, but what if one tired to make a trend with a modified costume of a sprite (take itch chat for example)? That’s also creativity.

Good idea! I always go to paint a sprite and end up going into the assets, like most people. Plus, regarding @CatsUnited's post…
…there is no statement in the start of scratch that you can draw on the premade characters. You find it out as you go, so using a premade character at the start is like having potatoes for every meal, it's bland. I imagine the ST have expected users, particularly beginner users to want to use premade costumes and modify those over starting from a blank canvas, as they already have something that they can try out the costume editor on.It was the only thing I could think of lol
