I just started the game and I'm not really sure about it. I'm playing as the survivor and I literally am stuck on getting a piece of food that's super high up. Any tips?

Some food is quite simply inaccessible. Don't sweat too much about it, all you need to do is start exploring and you'll be sure to find more. It's only later that you'll have to scrounge for every last bit you can get your hands on. I would recommend getting used to the game's mechanics for starters. There's plenty of other food to be found. If you can't figure out a way to get at some of it, move on because time is of the essence. That's not to say you should stop if you feel you can get it with a bit of determination or patience, it's just that you really don't want to spend 6 or 7 minutes hopelessly trying to jump high enough to get one point worth of food.

I finally got co-op working remotely, via parsec. My previous internet setup didn't allow it.

EDIT: i realize you may actually be talking about the inaccessible bluefruit in the tutorial area. just skip that as it's impossible to get (or at least, it was intended to be impossible). the rest of my reply refers to a room later in the area.

there's more food somewhere else…. to the room to the left there is a batfly swarm room (you can eat those)… downwards is another batfly swarm room… there's more bluefruit if you keep going left from that area…

i'm not sure why you think you need to obtain a singular piece of food in order to progress

(also, if you really want to get that bluefruit, you can do advanced movement manuevers to get it—a well-timed backflip up-throw with a rock to detach it from the ceiling. but as you're new to the game, it's not worth the time learning that)

that's nice. co-op is really fun. i think i've obtained like 100-200 hours playing co-op with random people, cus that's the only explanation for why i have so many hours in this game; i don't think i've spent that long in singleplayer. my fav things to do with it is arena competitive and expedition

I decided to investigate this fandom. My dad is looking for another game to move onto once he 50%s TLoZ:TotK. I have a few questions to ask:
  1. What are the major underlying mechanics of the game? I'd like to have a little knowledge of what I'll have to learn to excel at.
  2. Generally, how hard is it? My dad prefers to use an assist mode when possible.
  3. How much content is locked behind DLC?
  4. What platforms is it available on? Switch would be preferable, though Steam is also an option.
  5. Is local multiplayer (preferably co-op) an option?
  6. What is the game's price?

This is the Steam page which can answer some of your questions: https://store.steampowered.com/app/312520/Rain_World/

The gameplay is mostly survival and exploration and you'll be navigating the world mostly on foot as a slug cat though there's also a lot of climbing around and sometimes use of items to get to certain places. The game leaves the player to figure a lot out themselves, for example there are a bunch of movement mechanics like sliding and rolling triggered by timing movements and/or pressing certain combinations of movement keys.

Difficulty is probably hard to answer and varies with who you ask. I think it's difficult. Expect to die a lot, sometimes through little fault of your own, it's just the brutal nature of the game as a creature in the middle of the food chain. But don't worry too much, there are a few things that can make it a bit easier. Firstly is you can try playing as “monk” rather than “survivor” which adjusts some of the game balance (e.g. health, food, karma requirements). The other thing and I wish I had known about it before my first playthough is there is an official mod that comes with the game called Remix, it provides a bunch of quality of life features and some options can reduce the difficulty. You can still receive Steam achivements if it's enabled.

Local multiplayer is an option as DLC (Jolly Co-Op). You can play cooperatively through the main story. I believe there are a few free mods around that can do multiplayer, I haven't tried them and do not have much knowledge on it.

I don't see the DLC as locking anything away, the game can be enjoyed without it (and that's what I did originally, I bought the game without the DLC). Plus, there are a lot of free mods out there to further extend the game so if the cost was an issue you could check them out. With the cost though, you could just wait until the game goes on sale, there can be some pretty significant discounts.

Bump.

If I ever get involved in this game myself, I'm going to wait until the next sale. However, waiting until the next quarter of the year with it in mind requires some serious dedication. Maybe stirring up some activity here would make it easier to remember . . .

ENTRY A

I did some more research on Rain World. Yesterday, I discovered that its wiki was hosted on [HOST]. Digging through [HOST'S WIKI] to find it was not a pleasant experience. But I found:

- A wiki for BBIY mods
- A very fancy Tears of the Kingdom device development wiki (it was deleted)
- An entire wiki dedicated to Rain World's moveset
- The Rain World wiki!

Without exploring the wiki at all, I checked a link to a Steam patch log, and discovered a download link to a file named “Rain World Level Editor Downpour”. I booted into Windows, redownloaded the file there, unpacked it, bypassed the no-dev security & ended up with a control-less pop-up window showing splash art. After cycling the display, the window closed and Windows gave a disk concern notification. I wonder what I opened.
This happened this morning. Thoughts?

im not sure what a disk concern notification means exactly. but i never had problems with the level editor. (other than, the editor window taking keyboard and mouse input even if the window isn't focused, which is pretty annoying. it was made in adobe director, which may explain the problem)

it takes a minute for the editor to boot. i also only have one monitor so if it tried cycling my display it couldn't do anything, if i'm correct on my assumption of what that means. it was made in adobe director, which may explain the problem.

(i know it was made in adobe director because when the editor opens there's a permament watermark on the bottom of the right that says like, “Adobe Director 12 Free Trial”)

This was a recent change to the site, the forums now use the same filter as comments and images can no longer use assets.

Animalistic Psychology Projected on a Flooded Ecosystem

Let us open with an important reminder: to the other creatures of the world, you are nothing but dinner, albeit dangerous dinner. You seem exceptionally edible, but whether or not that is true depends on how attuned to animalistic psychology you are. We will use the humble, ubiquitous lizard as a subjective participant throughout this writing.

With a new cycle comes an instinctual urge to eat. Whether this statement is applied to you or a lizard, it is true; you all share the same fundamental needs. A lizard's urge to fight you, as well as their persistence to keep fighting against you when you fight back, scales with their need to eat. For this reason, expect the creatures of the world to be especially ravenous at the beginning of a cycle.

Author's note: I am experiencing an instinctual urge to eat as I type this . . .

However, some creatures know the lay of the land. They may see you as a target too clever and resistant to bother going after. While you may seem like a worthless target to them, they may be a particularly valuable target to you. If you watch one such lizard travel to its feeding grounds and stay out of sight as you do it, you can then kill the lizard to get the floor for yourself, distract the lizard and try to grab the food for yourself, wait it out in a hiding spot near the feeding spot and hope that the lizard leaves some leftovers, or turn the ambush around and try to tame the lizard with its own food. And if the lizard chooses you over its regularly scheduled meal, hey, at least you've got a ready-made plan to regenerate the resulting karma loss.

As the cycle progresses and the creatures of the world feed themselves, their willingness to fight you - or to fight in general - wanes. Towards the end of the cycle, the world becomes a slightly more peaceful place. And if a lizard identifies you as an appealing extra snack, a few well-placed rocks should be enough to give it second thoughts.

In the closing few minutes of the cycle, the gradual waning of the other creatures' wrath hits its peak. In preparation of the oncoming torrential downpour, the creatures of the world go into hiding. Under normal circumstances, you would follow suit. However, if you need to get somewhere, you need the floor completely to yourself, and you have an airtight route planned ahead of time, you can make a mad dash to another shelter in the few minutes before the rain comes down. Just consider doing some extra planning to quickly sort out karma recovery in case the rain does catch up to you.

Author's note: the information used in this writing has not been tested. This is simply me projecting an animalistic mindset onto the environment of Rain World. If you actually intend to use this as advice, you, not me, are responsible for lost karma resulting directly or indirectly from this writing and the information provided in it.
Yesterday, I made this writing. I'm pretty sure that I can make it as Survivor.

ENTRY C

Pulling the Fullpage strategy on an ORRW page and thoroughly reading it got me thinking about how best to go about Rain World. As the Icelandic Water Dragon, I am the frenzied, murderous Hunter. However, when reputation gets involved, Pariki's Monk-style thinking starts to bear on my mind. What is the best way to go about it?

Well, whatever it is, I've got 22 days to think about it. Anticipation is finite, philosophy is infinite.

EDIT: Survivor is almost entirely vegetarian, so don't sweat needing to kill too much. And Hunter is naturally out of line with the environment, so why not embrace that?
After doing some research, I have decided that Hunter is my ideal character, which would be fine if it weren't for this cycle limit thing that I've been hearing about.
