helvetica or helvetica neue is never not pre-installed on windows or chromeos, so it goes for the next available font in this order

i wasn't going to sugar coat it, i got straight to the point.

“this sucks!!!” Is not valid feedback. It is not constructive. Saying that you're just being ‘honest’ when you're really being a jerk is also not a valid defense. Do better.

I didn’t like the high contrast blocks at first because they look kind of washed out and very light mode themed, but after more consideration, I believe I do like them better than the current colors. They are easier to read and only really look washed out when they are next to the original blocks.

Although a dark variant would be very nice, I don’t think that improving the current blocks and making them a bit lighter is a bad thing.

I’m not agreeing with NanoRock, but sometimes a little bit of sugar coating is better than using a bludgeon.

It's also better for the people who have to sort through your feedback when you're constructive and propose solutions instead of making a kneejerk complaint post.

Considering Scratch 4.0 will never be a thing I'm excited for Scratch v3.999

Scratch sets the font weight for blocks to 500 but Arial only has normal and bold.

People complaining about the high-contrast colors, implying anything from Scratch Lab gets added

The sheer popularity of the site, the babylike Scratch 3 interface, the front page full of art projects and platforms copied from tutorials, and the Lab filler features that don't get added to the main editor…

It feels like Scratch is no longer an educational platform. Instead, it's dumbed down; catering to the lowest denomination for the sake of “engagement”. This isn't the Scratch I once knew.

it's in the process of bringing us a more accessible editor and potentially a dark mode so that's a win

there’s no sign it’s been worked on in two years apart from the accessible blocks, which haven’t been changed in four months.

About time. Glad to see them finally getting it done. A dark theme is probably the most requested feature ever.

it's also very difficult to implement correctly. so it's good that they chose to take their time. plus i'm pretty sure that would be an exponent block or first class lists or something.

No, it's the website that's wrong.
No, no, Scratch really has changed a great deal.

The front page projects have become a lot less interactive. Instead of game and story projects created from scratch, it's mostly uninteractive art projects and platformers made from griffpatch's tutorial. It may be all the new kids uninterested in programming or whose education doesn't develop their creativity, or changes in the front page algorithm.

Most relevant to this topic, Scratch Lab is the Scratch Team messing around with ideas and showing them to Scratchers before committing to their implementation. The ST could implement highlighted blocks into the main website without making a fuss and have had ample time to test them. I think they care more about virtue signalling than helping people with visual problems, especially given that they could massively increase the size of the text, which as it is now is less readable than in Scratch 2.

Overall, I think Scratch's userbase is massively inflated, the Scratch Team are more interested in keeping up appearances than actually improving Scratch or helping kids to learn programming skills, and none of it is authentic. Ironic given how much corporations pay lip service to authenticity nowadays.

The features are already fully implemented. The only thing stopping them is vetting the features to make sure they're best for Scratch, which is fair enough- but not for the purely visual changes, like text highlighting and changing the text size. It's a strong possibility that they don't plan to implement these new features into Scratch any time soon, and are just keeping up appearances here too.

Going by posts (and assuming I didn’t miss a suggestion) the Scratch dark mode suggestions actually has 3,000 posts which is nearly 700 posts more than the next most posted on suggestion, better custom blocks. Posts aren’t everything though.

I would say it is one of the most desired features, which is probably a reason why the ST decided to look into implementing it.
