So I've been thinking about having an option to friend users in Scratch.

So basically you can send them a friend request, it'd be a button below follow.

If you are friends with a user, you can share projects with them

This will make a message appear for them, it'd look like this:

To prevent spamming with messages, there will be a little rule implemented, probably having to wait 5 minutes between sharing with friends.
Tell me if you support and why!

EDIT: No, this is not going to be used for private messaging, friends can not see unshared projects so your project has to be shared before you can send it

No, I'm not talking about that, just a simple option for sharing projects with them. I know all that is rejected

I'm not really sure about this one yet. You might constantly get spammed with messages from your friends. Yes, I know that you said there would be a cooldown between projects, but you could just use project after project, just sharing them constantly. If you want it to end, you'll have to carry the guilt of having to un-friend the user to end it, and if they notice, you'll deeply hurt their feelings.

I'll think about it. I'll wait for other user input before making an official decision, but I'm lukewarm.

I’d be OK with having a system where mutual followers can request to be friends and have it show somewhere, just as a little “Hey, I’m in company with this person.”

As with anything on Scratch that would be privately shared, you’d need to disable comments and maybe remixes/loves/favorites. Even then, it’s cumbersome to regulate.

Tl;dr, if it had no functional differences from being mutual followers, yeah.

Partial support for a partial implementation.

I think maybe you could share a project with your followers, or followers you choose, and you could see them in a separate section, either by clicking on you username or in my stuff. And the person sharing it could choose to send notifications or not.

Yes, but that would mean that if someone was following a lot of people, they would have to click that button over and over. That's why I think using friends is better.

That's part of a whole other suggestion, though. However, you may be referring to inviting your followers to a studio that advertises a project. Lots of users don't like those studios, though, and get annoyed when studio advertisement invites clutter up their messages. How would this suggestion be any different?

You could have an unfriend or disable notifications button (no u 60 second rule)

Yet again, if the user you unfriend notices, they could get upset. The user could possibly start a flame war.

disable notifications button

This defeats the entire purpose of having friends.

Here's a picture of griffpatch's profile. Part of the picture says “No friends yet”, so I'm guessing this was a thing before.

-snip-
I heard it used to be followers, nothing special, the name was replaced with followers later, so, I'm guessing it didn't do much.

This seems very, very similar to this suggestion, while it does not have an official “friend” system. I'm going to ask a moderator if this is a duplicate, because the point of the friends system is so that you can advertise projects with your friends.

You could use this as private messaging and that is rejected.
Also, what would you want to share with friends that you wouldn't share with the community?
And ,people would spam famous Scratchers with mail and they wouldn't like that.

Look, first, you ask for permission to friend them, second, there is a cooldown, third, I don't plan on making friends see unshared projects, so no, it can't be used for private messaging.

im afraid not, it would cause more issues than none. a “workaround” would be to follow eachother.

i can imagine some cases where people would be quite mad
