Real Time Commenting!

My suggestion today is real time commenting! So, here's what this would be:
  • You would not have to reload to see new comments, (more like texting)
  • A show when I'm typing toggle that would show when you are replying or posting a comment. ("–Explosion– is typing…")
– Removed because this would induce much more server strain that is uneeded.

How would this be usefull?
  1. If chatting with a user you wouldn't have to reload the page or your messages page for every new comment.
  2. This is a solution to a lot of private messaging ideas.
  3. Comments are still public and can be reported.
  4. It would enable quicker messaging between users in a world where everything is virtual.

Note: This would only turn on after both users have replied to each other in the course of ten minutes, verifying that they are both online and reducing server troubles.

Thanks for reading!

I already thought about suggesting that. Comments are a real mess, especially since they don't update on their own.

Thanks!
I reserved it from the regret of not reserving a post on one of my suggestions that got 200 replies

This could cause a buncha moderation issues.

The only problem is that I don't know if the servers can handle it. The scratch servers are currently really slow, it takes sometimes 15 seconds until the front page starts loading.

I mean… In essence it's not any different than normal commenting.

I don't think so. It just means that you can see comments a bit more quickly.

Hmm, maybe this would only activate if the user relied to a comment, in which case it would start for that comment.

Support.

I think a lot of people will be confused that I'm supporting this, because I generally don't support suggestions that suggest live chat, but this is different. Live chat makes things hard to moderated, because the messages always keep going below, and it would be hard to keep track of the conversation. As for real-time commenting, it won't really be hard to keep up with because it's the standard Scratch comments setup, except everything is faster. It would also be easy to moderate.

And of course, it's much more convenient this way. I must say, the current commenting system on Scratch is pretty buggy sometimes.

Additionally, maybe the Scratch servers would run this only if they're fast enough at certain moments. Maybe the servers could automatically revert to the normal commenting system if they're slow. Just letting this work sometimes could be useful enough - that happens often in social media. I think everyone who uses a social media has experience with features that are suddenly there and the next day they're not, and then the next day they're randomly back.

For that user only. It would also only start after the first reply of the other user and would disable after 10 minutes. This basically filters out everything exept people chatting with each other.

This doesn't really add much in ways of Scratch and is also very server-intensive (why do you think you only see live chat on live streaming sites?)

Thanks for your support and constructive post. Below your post (you ninja'd me) is a larger explanation of when exactly this would turn on. As you said, reverting to normal when the servers are slow is also a good idea.

Did you read my explanation of when this would turn on? It would be very selective.

That doesn't matter, it still wasting server resources on what, 10 seconds max on waiting?

Also, I don't think having the “(user) is typing…” is a good idea - it just makes everything more like a chatting website and more server-intensive. Maybe just suggest real-time commenting? The comments would show up faster, but there would be no system that shows when a user is typing. I don't know if any of you have noticed, but that's how it works on Github.

I respect your original opinion, but I'm just pointing out that you forgot about Github (or, actually, YouTube isn't exactly a streaming website - it's just a website with streaming in it - but then again, it is YouTube…)

Anyways, could you tell to me all the streaming websites you know? I really need a better knowledge of them. The only one I'm familiar with is Twitch.

I have edited the OP to take into account some things brought up by posters.

While, I think this would be a very good thing to have, the only problem is it might not be feasible.

I think before they could even add live commenting, they should fix the problem of not seeing comments for minutes occasionally. I don't think live commenting will fully work unless even showing comments will fully work.
