Yes, I think that the studio updates should appear in the activity section to help avoid private messaging, and as for the box that can be ticked to receive messages, I think that it should be the other way around. Users would untick the box if they wanted to stop receiving messages, but it would be the default. I do think that the risk of using this feature to DM is high, but it wouldn't technically be private as the messages would be visible in the activity section of the group.

Seems useful. I'd be glad to know when something significant happens in a studio, rather than sorting through a bunch of comments after receiving a message at the end of the day.
