Add a decoy dislike button [Moderator note: NOW rejected]
So basically I think it would be a good idea if we added dislikes, only that
1. It wouldn't affect likes
2. the number would not show
And when you click it, it basically just changes the color and nothing else, like a youtube comment dislike.
When people dislike a project, this would be a good way to let out their anger without actually hurting the creator.
In fact, apparently overwatch used to have a feature where users can report their teammates for being bad at the game, but it does nothing and only really makes the reporter feels better.
And we can make it so that if the number of dislikes to likes/views ratio is too high (yes, data should be kept on dislikes, only hidden to public) we can make it harder to find (say if you search it then it appears lower), and we can replace hearts with likes, which I personally think is a good idea!

no, this is a bad idea. snip
because if someone just joined scratch their first few projects might be really simple or from a tutorial and super basic and many bugs if many pressed the dislike button it would give the maker a bad feeling and might even be enough to make that person stop scratch. If they had something to say or had some problems they wanted to point out they could just comment and give some constructive comments.
this has been suggested before but the scratch team rejected it here: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/196776/?page=2#post-1958521

Add a decoy dislike button [Moderator note: NOW rejected]
(removed by moderator - please keep it polite), you'll notice that the project creator cannot see how many dislikes their project has. In fact, the dislike button is only a method of venting one's anger.
Semi support. Really neat suggestion, but not needed.

Semi support. Really neat suggestion, but not needed.well, disliking isn't really good and no one should be venting any anger on any projects.
and watch your attitude please.
I told you, it's just to satisfy the disliking person.
I anticipate that you replied on the whim of “dislike” alone?

Dislike button or a project rating system
This idea has a major drawback. Generally, a user's first project is something rather simple, such as a test project, a remix, or a project made using a tutorial. Because this project is simple, other users may give the project low ratings since it is not advanced. With low enough ratings, the creator might be discouraged enough to stop using Scratch, even though the creator is just trying to learn.
This suggestion is rejected.

It's a shortening for “Original Post”, or “Original Poster”. They are asking that you re-read the original post; the one at the top of the thread, what is OP? Read what the OP said
If you were in a roleplay context, it would also stand for “Over-Powered”

I think this could be a good idea, although when you start adjusting searchability based on the like/dislike ratio you get into some dangerous territory. Mass reporting is already being used as a weapon, the same could happen if dislikes aren't done properly.
Also, if word gets out that disliking doesn't do anything (and it will), it won't solve the problem. People will still just go in the comments and say “This do be bad doe.”
Plus, I think disliking in any form has long since been disapproved by the ST.
So put simply, you have my (partial) support, but good luck getting any from the ST…

but this suggestion isn't rejected. the rejected one implies that along with the dislike button is a dislike counter. this suggestion does not have that. please fact check your information before posting.Read my post a bit up, please. I still don't think this is a good idea. I feel this is going to give kids the incentive to tell creators in the comments that they disliked the project. It already happens enough with the report button.
About this…
I think what Overwatch did is a perfect example of why we should not implement this feature. By not responding, the devs/moderators say they don't care if you dislike a user for being “bad”. It's your problem, not theirs. What even constitutes as bad anyways? Why is x considered bad when y is not?
Unless it's one of those unwritten rules that the majority of the internet agrees upon then there really isn't a standard to hold up to other than your standard, which frankly none of us really worry and shouldn't have to worry about when we create a project.
Scratch was designed to be a good programming experience especially for younger children. This doesn't add on to that philosophy.

If someone is going to have an issue with a Scratch Project When people dislike a project, this would be a good way to let out their anger without actually hurting the creator. In fact, apparently overwatch used to have a feature where users can report their teammates for being bad at the game, but it does nothing and only really makes the reporter feels better.that much, I would think they would have some sort of issue. Again, I don't know how the user “receiving” the dislike would feel if they knew someone else was disliking the project, let alone knew who exactly it was.

A dislike button would give the impression that harsh criticism is encouraged on Scratch - this would probably increase the amount of angry comments by people who didn't read the Community Guidelines and do guesswork.
