After 999,999,999... (Moved from Questions About Scratch)
I do not support this suggestion, as it will make it harder to archive large amounts of projects.

That's why the Scratch Team might need bigger servers to accomodate the growing number of projects. I do not support this suggestion, as it will make it harder to archive large amounts of projects.

I believe they're talking about a program or script that someone writes to scrape project IDs and then download them automatically so that they have their own copy of all those projects. That's why the Scratch Team might need bigger servers to accomodate the growing number of projects. I do not support this suggestion, as it will make it harder to archive large amounts of projects.

I don't think we need 143,900,000,000,000,000 possibilities. (slightly lowered it because of skipping bad words)

Numbers are already taken. Unless we're moving to hex, which actually sounds quite appealing… Why use Base-52? Use Base-64 instead.
Anyway, why just a-f, and neither g-z nor A-Z? Or A-F and neither G-Z nor a-z? I can actually expand my suggestion… because base-64, I suppose, uses - and _, something I had not considered in my post. I'll add that.

An interesting idea! However, I suspect what we will do is stick with base 10 and just add extra digits to the project ID as necessary. You may recall that the very first projects only had three digits - like this one. We just added more digits as the pool of projects grew
