Starting A Scratch Club!
I am a 6th grader at Fort Settlement middle school. Just two days ago, only two students knew what Scratch was. I am glad to say that, that number has increased to at least fifty students. So for next year, we are doing a programming club, where we use mainly Scratch and sometimes Python. The club will begin next year. If any of you just happen to be from Fort Settlement (and I highly doubt it), please join the club.
Her is part of my document (un-revised):
This is something one of my programs in Python wrote:
This is a programming club that teaches programming using the computer languages, Scratch and Python. This programming club's purpose is to inspire kids to program and get a basic knowledge in coding and programming.
And it is exactly the reason for this all summed up. Computer programming is very important. It is in every single one of our appliances, and electronic devices. Here is another example of one of my programs:
f(x) =sec(5x^2) f’(x) =10x1tan(5x2)sec(5x2)
That is a program I wrote that solves Calculus problems in Scratch, and it solved this for me. I recently created a program in Scratch that recognizes what word you’re saying. As you can see, you can do a lot with programming.
Students with no experience with programming will be using Scratch because it is the simplest, and students with little and up experience will use both Scratch and Python.
We will meet after school once every two weeks to once a month for an hour and fifteen minutes.
We will need:
• Enough computers for everybody (Library: limit people will be decided by number of computers)
• The completely free and safe programs Scratch and Python (beta.scratch.mit.edu and scratch.mit.edu and www.helloworldbook.com)
• Projector (and screen)
• Students!
We are Neo and Alejo (Fig Science 6th grade 7th period)
Programming is the future. In the future, everything will be electronic, so why not learn to program? Programming helps us understand computers and other technology better. It also gives us a background in simple arithmetic and (sometimes) more complex math. Not only is it important, it is fun! Your only limits are your creativity.
