Bring together the scratchers!
The idea is that scratch hosts a convention called scratchcon in a state and it stays there for a couple of days before moving onto the next state. It will bring scratchers in the area together to meet in person and meet new people. It will happen every two years (or depending on what scratch team thinks it could be held at any time). It will be a good experience to meet some of the more “famous” scratchers like griffpatch and such. It would be great if this idea became reality, but that's scratch teams opinion.

N E G A T I V E S U P P O R T (thanks, Za-Chary)
Sounds like a wonderful idea, but what about the kids? It's not like they could attend a ScratchCon… A lot of people would probably miss out and feel sad. Also, if we do that what happens to protecting people's identity? If a ScratchCon came to where I am right now I probably wouldn't attend, for the sole reason of privacy.

Huh, didn't really think about that, looks like I need to think a bit more about this.

Maybe every one could use their profile username instead if their actual name and the kids… Well I have to think more about them.

No.
I wouldn't go because I want to protect my face, or identity.

Probably what I'm saying is 90% wrong, but I disagree. Do you ever cover your face when you're outside because you want to protect your privacy? Do people cover themselves in common meetings to defend their private identity? I don't think so. It's always true that one may take a photo of you outside irl and publish it online, but this can happen anywhere.Maybe every one could use their profile username instead if their actual name and the kids… Well I have to think more about them.

OP: I don't know about the Scratch camp, but perhaps your suggestion is something similar to it?

I mean sure, there are people who wouldn't want to go for their own reasons, but I don't think that should disregard the possibility of something like this happening unless that group of people is a sizeable percentage of the community.
That said, I don't think Scratch is popular enough of a platform to expect a great turnout - especially when removing those that either don't want to go or physically can't (because of either lack of parental permission or from being halfway across the world).

I'm not really sure how to deal with the identity stuff because we can't just have everyone wearing paper bags over their heads.

You're right.
However, I don't think I'm ready to expose myself to this community just yet. Maybe I'll go but give no reference to ResExsention… I'll pretend I'm some random user because I am not ready to associate my real life character with this account.

Wait, maybe to get entry you need a specific badge (or key card) with your username on it so no one tries to like pass themselves off as a scratcher even though they are not, so this could be used as a security protocol and a way to keep your identity hidden, but now im thinking about showing your face in scratchcon and having your identity hidden.

No!
If you do that, I will never go to ScratchCon, As I said, once I get there I don't want to get people whispering about me and my 1000+ posts… I'm become the star of ScratchCon if that happened.

Well, all you would need to do is swipe your card ( or show your badge ) and you would be asked if this is in fact your username and you would be let in, it's not like they will scream it to everyone.

I actually like this idea, but I do think it could use some more editing. I don’t have any ideas, but I feel like it’s not complete.

Still, the people who were around be in line would know. And those few people who overheard would soon spread it to everyone else, and all of a sudden I'm the center of attention. Everyone will probably be interrogating me over me refusing to press that button.
But still, if we can somehow get this working (while protecting me :)), I would really love to come!

The key card reader won't say it aloud and we can make it so only the person swiping the card can see it.

Scratch Day is already a thing, and it seems similar to what you're suggesting.

Semi-support. What about large states, like California or Alaska? A lot of people in those states wouldn't be able to go to ScratchCon because it's too far away.
