Okay, lemme explain this one.
You know how on the main website (e.g comments on projects) when you do @username it links to that person's profile? I would like that to be on the forums.
For example:
@MClovers would become @MClovers.
It would make linking people a whole lot easier.
Thanks for reading!

Support.

I never really understood why this feature doesn't exist, so I'd say yes.

I want to say support, but this could open the door to some malicious things… unless the
[url=]Your text to link here...[/url]
no longer works on @'s
because if it became the norm on the fourms all someone would have to do would be
[url=Malicious Auto Download Site]@(name)[/url]
because it would be less suspected to be anything of the sort.
Now I trust most people on here to not do that, but there may be a few that would, and that's not a chance I'd be willing to take.

The link shows up in the bottom left corner?

No support.

As you probably already may have noticed, posts on the forums don't quite work the same as comments do. They use BBcode, so any plain text like this post will just simply display… plain text. If we want something to happen, we have to do it ourselves and not expect “it's automatically going to do this in that”, we have to do it intentionally.
For example, let's say you're trying to provide someone an address to where you can appeal Scratch. You'd see "appeals@scratch.mit.edu". If you want to mention someone or link a profile, do it yourself with the [url] tag.

Okay, then how about it has to be detached from everything else.

All mentions of Scratch projects are automatically made hyperlinks.

those links seem to be working too - anything starting with “htpp://” or “htpps://” are automatically hyperlinked.

Woh! It works!

In all seriousness though, yeah those are some good points, I'm going to have to say that it's an interesting idea, but should probably be done manually.

This would be nice, but like StrangeMagic32 said, it could lead to a site that prompts you to download malicious software. Even though the link destination will show in the bottom-left corner, most people don't look down there/wouldn't notice often, especially younger people.

This can easily be recreated with normal links.

I think that the at sign, (@), followed by a username should provide a link to that user's profile on forums since it works that way on regular comments, and I don't like having to go to their profile, and copy/pasting their url. It would be so much easier if you could just post “@User”.

EDIT: Thanks for all the support!
EDIT 2: Yes I know you wouldn't have to copy/paste the URL but still it would be easier instead of typing the URL

You can also just press their username on the left side of the screen to go to their profile page.

That's an even easier workaround. No support.

No, that's not what I mean. What if I wanted to link my alt account on forums, but they weren't on that topic? I'd just do “@bcsi102”.

Full support, I have wanted this for a long time. Right now you have to do “scratch.mit.edu/users/whoever” but it would be so much easier to just do @whoever.

I must admit, writing down the entire profile link is a tedious process, I've been using the forums for a very long time now and I still find it annoying.
