This could cause confusion. For example, in a project someone credits @GarbagePanda. But let's say I decided to change my name to @GARBAGEPANDA. When someone clicks the link to view @GarbagePanda, nothing will appear.

Ability To Change Username Capitalization
Username capitalization already doesn't matter according to the servers; This is a great suggestion, as long as the URLs do not change. I might be accustomed to typing in scratch.mit.edu/users/iiucandyfloss, but then I change my user to iiuCandyfloss. Would the URL lead to the same profile?https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/users/bignate469 and https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/users/BigNate469 both lead to my profile page, despite one not having the correct capitalization. Similarly, @BigNate469 and @bignate469 if typed somewhere that isn't the forums lead to the same place as well- my profile page.
Also, what if there are two users with the same users but different capitalisation e.g. Candy and candy. If Candy changes to candy, who is who?
If doing this is impossible, then please notify me and regard this second point as invalid.
For your second point, it is invalid- you can't create a user named GRIFFPATCH because there's already a user named griffpatch. Go try it if you would like to prove this.
Interesting. Maybe it would be alright to change username capitalization then.

I feel like a lot of people don't know that though, so maybe this could be stated somewhere (possibly where you change capitalization)

The capitalization doesn't matter for links or for “@username”s: This could cause confusion. For example, in a project someone credits @GarbagePanda. But let's say I decided to change my name to @GARBAGEPANDA. When someone clicks the link to view @GarbagePanda, nothing will appear.

Also I think this idea's pretty good, but I wouldn't use it. Support!

Consider reading the OP before speaking, next time. This could cause confusion. For example, in a project someone credits @GarbagePanda. But let's say I decided to change my name to @GARBAGEPANDA. When someone clicks the link to view @GarbagePanda, nothing will appear.

IRL example I support it, but I have a question:
If this was to be accepted, how would it be implemented?

change [username] by (making part of it lowercase)
wait until <ST approves of request>

Ability To Change Username Capitalization
I asked Paddle2See about this and he said that it was a good idea and that it might be possible.Do you mean like display name?
So let’s say you wanted to do the L for the I thing, however you accidentally made the l capital, thus making the username not say what you wanted it to!
So, my suggestion is that you can change your username, however your username would stay the same. All that would change is if the letters are uppercase or lowercase. For instance, I could change my username to m1mikyu instead of M1mikyu. Make sense?
I doubt this would cause confusion as all it is is changing the case of your username instead of your actual username.
EDIT! I am no longer going to be responding to people’s messages on this topic unless it’s something very important or a point that hasn’t been made before. This is to avoid redundancy as many of the questions people ask have been asked before and I don’t have much to add about it. I’m still going to be viewing this thread, but I don’t think I’ll make any posts on it unless something significant happens.
NEW DESCRIPTION:
No, this isn't rejected. It is mentioned in The Official List of Rejected Suggestions that it isn't rejected. https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/343602/ (part of section 8)
I made this forum over a year ago and I think it's time to clear things up.
You know how some people use a capital i to resemble a lowercase L? Well, what if they accidentally did a lowercase i? Then the iiiusion of their name would no longer work.
in that situation I mentioned above, the (made up) user wanted their username to be iIIusion, with the L being an i, but the capitalization got messed up so it doesn't look like the word “illusion”
idk I just wanted to make an example while explaining the i and L thing.
so, before the inevitable “BUT LINKS TO THEIR PROFILE WON'T WORK ANYMORE!!!!” , click these links: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/users/M1MIKYU/ https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/users/M1mikyu/ they both link to my profile. Thus your argument is invalid
let me know if anything needs clearing up I'm really tired right now

Do you mean like display name? -snipydip-
Clearly they mean like changing the capitalization of your username not setting a display name
For example: changing “username” to “USERNAME”

Ability To Change Username Capitalization
Personally, I would think if you were a newer Scratcher, following someone, then the username changes (even by uppercase), I would probably be confused. I know that capitalization doesn't matter when it comes to links, but I'm not sure if newer Scratchers would know this info, and maybe learn it later on, after being confused for awhile. This could also cause confusion for Scratchers looking to change their username, but don't know that it can only be changed to uppercase. This would be another problem if a user accidentally changed it and was confused. Another question is raised of how it would work. Would it be in the account info section? What would the button look like? And how would you be able to make it uppercase? Which letters? While this would be helpful to change capitals, I think it's not completely necessary (in my opinion).

Im not a big fan of this confusion argument - if someone gets confused by a text field that says “Change Username Capitalization” then they might be too young to use Scratch. It might confuse followers of a scracther that changes their capitalization - but then again, as long as they know the feature exists, i doubt many would question it that much Personally, I would think if you were a newer Scratcher, following someone, then the username changes (even by uppercase), I would probably be confused. If you ask the ST to change the capitalization of your username through Contact Us, will they normally respond and change it appropriately or say that it’s not for a good reason like contains personal information or causes gender dysphoria?

I think this should be implemented not by a “change username capitalization” button, but by having the ST listen when someone Contacts Us asking to change the capitalization of their username.

If a person can't comprehend the concept of changing the S in scratch to Scratch, or that the links don't change with that simple of an explanation, how can they even get past the basic registration Personally, I would think if you were a newer Scratcher, following someone, then the username changes (even by uppercase), I would probably be confused. Sounds like it might unnecessarily flood Contact Us, it takes a while for them to get back as is (i would know), i cant imagine how much this would prolong ban appeals or otherwise important messages. I think this should be implemented not by a “change username capitalization” button, but by having the ST listed when someone Contacts Us asking to change the capitalization of their username.
