This suggestion is quite old and I don't necessarily think it needs to be added.

Okay, so a quick overview:
What it would be is a little button or link that says “Edit History”.
THIS WOULD ONLY BE ADDED FOR THE FORUMS

The ST does not allow you to edit your comments on projects, profiles or studios, because trolls could edit their comment quickly.
However, in the discussion forums, you have the ability to edit your posts. So trolls could edit their posts quickly without anyone knowing.
The button would let people be able to see previous versions of the post/topic.

This would also be a neat feature to see, for example, the previous versions of shops, to see how far they have come.

Also, any inappropriate posts are not shown in the edit history page. Plus, if an ST member edits a post to make it appropriate, the previous versions are removed.

Feel free to post! Make sure you are constructive, helpful, and don't just say “Support” or “No support”. It adds nothing to the discussion and is annoying.

Are you suggesting this to be implemented only for the forums? If so, semi-support.

Although I probably wouldn't use this feature very much, I see where you're getting at with this suggestion. It would be nice for the moderation of posts so this sort of thing (trolling and then editing) doesn't happen. Furthermore, I like your idea of looking at the history of a shop and seeing how far it has gone.

To implement this on projects, profiles, and studios, no support.

The Scratch website itself is used considerably more than the forums, and so I would think that there would be more trolls on there. I think the ability to edit comments would lead to a greater chance of disrespectful comments not being reported. For example,

In this example, the Scratcher edits their comment to something meaningless. When I browse through comments, I wouldn't think to check the edit history of every single comment. If I see a comment that says “___”, I would just consider it meaningless spam and probably not report it. But if I see “your project is really bad i hate you”, I would definitely report it right away.

Overall, it's a good suggestion for the forums, but not for projects, profiles, or studios. There is a reason that you can edit forum posts, but not comments on the Scratch website.

I'm not sure how i feel about this, I tend to edit posts that have had poor wording, or dumb typos that I didn't want people to see. I see how this could be useful in cases of trolling, though.

The “edit” maybe a lie. Maybe they just insulted the person above them, but quickly edited it after a little bit of time.

Eh, semi-support. It sounds like a cool idea, but I would support if you had the option to turn edit history off for your posts/topics. If you post something stupid or against the community guidelines, then change it, people could still see the potentially inappropriate thing.

Support, it adds a bit more transparency and makes sure that trolling or hidden inappropriate comments can be dealt with. Also, I doubt that anyone would really care about any typos you edited out, plus no one would go out of their way to look at an edit unless they have a reason, such as when being trolled.

I don't see any downsides about this. It would indeed lower trolling even more ^^

Ohh, good one. I hadn't thought of that.

Though this is an interesting feature and, as you said, would help deal with trolls, one drawback I can see is users seeing another user's name in the editing history that was previously mentioned for being banned/doing things violating the CG, and was removed by the ST to prevent gossip/drama.

i.e.

Before:

hey ST can you please ban ExampleScratcher12345
this user keeps posting inappropriate stuff on my projects and its really annoying me!!

After:

hey ST can you please ban (removed by moderator - please don't name and shame)
this user keeps posting inappropriate stuff on my projects and its really annoying me!!

So maybe when ST users edit a post like the example above they could decide whether this version of the post could be seen by everyone, or only by the ST.

For the suggestion itself, I support it, as it would discourage trolling and allow greater moderation of posts.
