Gender change button?
okay, thank you ! will doSo I did some digging on my end - it looks like a mod asked you to post in the suggestions forum because you were making a suggestion instead of asking to change the gender field for your account particularly. What was the name of the mod that sent the actual reply? No, it told me to post here in both the default message and the actual reply messageWas that the default message that you immediately got after sending in your request? The “Contact Us” send a message by default that reminds others about the Scratch Forums (this because we get a lot of messages every day, and the Scratch Forums should be used for general stuff). If you're talking about the default message, then you'll have to wait out a few days to get a reply from a human moderator.already tried that, they told me to post about it here Getting things changed in the database (other than password) is kind of a tricky thing for us, your best bet here would be to use the “Contact Us” link about it to try to get it changed.
You can send in another message - but make sure to phrase it as more of a request to have your gender change in your account than a general suggestion.

Gender change button?
I feel that a gender change button is completely necesarry. I understand that yes, data input changes could be hard, and yes, it would take time, but, if you can add a change email button, of course you could add a change gender button. I made my scratch account two years ago, and I identified as a cisgender female. One and a half years later, I realised I felt less feminine and had a slight pull towards masculinity. Now I identify as a demigirl and the gender I picked back then is neither accurate nor a clear description of my gender identity. A gender change button wold be simple yet empowering to people like me who are making the transition between gender identities.

Gender change button?
I was actually thinking about this the other day, but I couldn’t think of a way it could work
Contact Us is probably the best way to go, you don’t need to change the website up, and it prevents users that don’t need it from abusing it
The only problem is the potential wait (which again, makes sure users don’t just change it all the time)
How could you abuse this? The only way I can think is easily circumvented by putting a wait time on it. (Like, you can only change it once a month.)

Gender change button?
I was wondering if it would be possible for scratch team to add a button that allows people to change the gender that they put when they signed up for scratch, since there are some transgender scratchers like me who get gender dysphoria from having it as “female” or “male”. Maybe add a dropdown button in “Account settings” that allows you to select a different one (and if they select other, a section for typing their gender).
Support. This would comfort a lot of users.

This would be a huge waste of time. The gender is only used for statistics, and that, similar to age, is at login. You can’t change your age either. If your gender changes, just use your profile descriptions to note that.

It honestly doesn't matter if this is the case, because the gender you select when creating an account is private and never publicly appears on the site. It doesn't affect your account in any way. Support:

semi-support. the gender you select is never revealed on the website and is only ever used to verify your account if you get hacked.

Nobody can see it. If you want to make your gender clear, you can put it in your profile descriptions. Support, I lied about my gender I think when I join so that’d be nice to change

Support but also no support. Its partially unnecessary since the ST only uses the data for their analytics. It isnt displayed anywhere, and if you change it, they have to change your analytics, which may cause issues on the server since you could possibly abuse it by overloading the servers (multiple users changing their gender at the same time) or it may cause errors if you change it to an unknown value. I wouldnt completely recommend adding this, but I see how people could feel better about it.

Gender change button?
i dont think it would mess anything up. they probably dont change their statistics by hand, and a bot probably does it, so they could change the bot to keep track of gender changes as well. The reason why users are asked for their gender upon creating an account is that the ST apparently likes to keep statistics of the users on the site so they know who Scratch's general audience is. Changing your gender would mess up this statistic as it would be harder for the ST to keep track of all the changing genders.
One person changing their gender wouldn’t messing it up, but bots and trolls and just normal people changing genders and flipping around genders repeatedly like turning a light switch on an off would. No support, as, again, if some famous streamer gets all their viewers to go onto scratch and to flip their genders to boy, then girl, then boy, then girl, repeatedly, then it can mess up stuff.

To be honest I really dont understand why scratch even takes those datas, because age makes sense, since it would be helpful to know who is on your website, but what does gender really tell you in statistics on scratch? I feel like they should just remove the whole gender thing at sign up completely

They use gender because they want to make Scratch more accessible for all genders, there is a lot of gender disparity in professions and the goal of Scratch would be to see how they can appeal to all genders.

I see. Although does the gender of scratch users really help with that? I would guess its so scratch works good for all genders? but how exactly would they make scratch “fit for all genders”? it makes sense that they can get rid of discrimination, but I don't see any other ways they could help

Fun fact: timers fricking exist. This isn't rocket science, it's basic user stats that literally every other company has figured out. If changing it every second is a problem, limit it to every month or two. It's not this hard.

The only use for this I can see is if you accidently clicked the wrong gender. I don't think that happens very often, and if it does, who cares?

A person's gender isn't shown anywhere on their profile, and I highly doubt the ST actually does anything with the gender you gave them. No support.
