Gender change button?

I was wondering if it would be possible for scratch team to add a button that allows people to change the gender that they put when they signed up for scratch, since there are some transgender scratchers like me who get gender dysphoria from having it as “female” or “male”. Maybe add a dropdown button in “Account settings” that allows you to select a different one (and if they select other, a section for typing their gender).when the IMPOSTOR IS SUS!!!!!!!GUYS

I think the gender isn't displayed anywhere publicily so I don't really think this really matters to Scratch…

Support for an option in settings that lets you change the gender as this would be a simple feature to add that could make a lot of users feel more comfortable. However, I'm not sure if the site is designed to do stuff like this considering that the website isn't designed to handle name changes, though I guess this depends on how the site handles each respective piece of user data.

The reason why users are asked for their gender upon creating an account is that the ST apparently likes to keep statistics of the users on the site so they know who Scratch's general audience is. Changing your gender would mess up this statistic as it would be harder for the ST to keep track of all the changing genders.

Would it really mess it up that much? If anything it would make the results more accurate considering that some user's original entries might be incorrect.

i dont think it would mess anything up. they probably dont change their statistics by hand, and a bot probably does it, so they could change the bot to keep track of gender changes as well.

If you can change ur password, the site could definitely handle the changing of ur gender in the settings…

Definitely support. And yeah - they've stated some statistics (something like “girls leave more comments than boys”), so of course they need gender data to make those observations, which means they do keep gender data per user, even though it's not visible anywhere.

No support; As stated above, this would mess up the statistics.
I understand that some people wish to be gender neutral, but that information is not shown on the site to normal scratchers.
Fun fact: when you create your account at first, it has three suggestions for genders: Boy, Girl, and a empty text box.

yes, i know, but some people realize that they are not the gender they put down after they create their account. and it would not mess with statistics, since scratch team doesnt write the stats by hand, and it would also make the statistics incorrect if we didnt add a gender change button ( since there are some guys who have it down as female or girls who have it down as male or nonbinary people who have it down as female or male )

Getting things changed in the database (other than password) is kind of a tricky thing for us, your best bet here would be to use the “Contact Us” link about it to try to get it changed.

I understand where you're coming from, as a user who now prefers non-binary pronouns to some extent. I also feel like, although this never shows up publicly, it could definitely improve statistics and make them more accurate.

Was that the default message that you immediately got after sending in your request? The “Contact Us” send a message by default that reminds others about the Scratch Forums (this because we get a lot of messages every day, and the Scratch Forums should be used for general stuff). If you're talking about the default message, then you'll have to wait out a few days to get a reply from a human moderator.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, but I couldn’t think of a way it could work
Contact Us is probably the best way to go, you don’t need to change the website up, and it prevents users that don’t need it from abusing it
The only problem is the potential wait (which again, makes sure users don’t just change it all the time)

No, it told me to post here in both the default message and the actual reply message

So I did some digging on my end - it looks like a mod asked you to post in the suggestions forum because you were making a suggestion instead of asking to change the gender field for your account particularly.

You can send in another message - but make sure to phrase it as more of a request to have your gender change in your account than a general suggestion.
