Translating Scratch 3.0
The Scratch Team is working on the next version of Scratch (Scratch 3.0). The new online version will be launched in August 2018. To support translation of the Scratch 3.0 editor we will be adding a new project to Transifex. Current translators will automatically have permission to translate the new project.
We expect to have the new content added by May 1. Languages that are fully translated and reviewed by June 30th will be included in the August launch of 3.0. For our planning, it would be good to have an idea of which languages will be able to meet that schedule. If you can commit to helping with the translation and review during May and June, please fill out this form.
What if my language isn’t complete at the end of June?
After the August launch we’ll return to our usual monthly update of translations. We’ll begin adding more completed languages in October.
What about the offline editor?
The Scratch 2 offline editor will continue to be supported, however we will not be adding any new languages. An offline version of Scratch 3.0 is planned but will not be available in August.
How does this affect the website?
The current website projects scratch-website and scratch-legacy/web should continue to be translated, and they will be updated monthly. The changes to these projects will be incremental, as they have been for the past couple of years..
What shouldn’t be translated now?
The Scratch 3.0 editor will have a new tips system and updated activity cards. Thus, we recommend waiting to create images of the Scratch blocks or interface.
Any other questions? Please contact translate@scratch.mit.edu
